Troops Destroyed 13 Illegal Oil Refining Sites in Niger Delta

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): According to the Nigerian Army's 6 Division, it has demolished up to 13 illicit refinery locations around the Niger Delta. During several operations last week, around 300,000 liters of stolen goods were found and about 15 suspected oil thieves were taken into custody.

The operations were conducted across the states of Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Akwa Ibom, according to a statement released in Port Harcourt by Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations for the 6 Division. Four boats were demobilized and more than 150 domestically manufactured ovens were turned off as a result of these actions.

The army found a pool filled with 252,000 liters of stolen crude oil at a vandalized location in Edo State. Additionally, pipes, hoses, and a pumping mechanism were found at the location. In Delta State, the army stopped a 30,000-liter DAF tanker truck that was stealing crude oil from the PAN Ocean Nigeria Limited Pipeline. More than 10,000 liters of stolen goods were seized as a result of the activities in River State. Additionally, a number of illicit refining clusters were discovered in the area. Polythene bags containing stolen automotive gas oil were found in a storage facility as a result of raids conducted in Akwa Ibom State.

Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Emekah, General Officer Commanding 6 Division, commended the troops' efforts to prevent pipeline destruction and oil theft.
