First Natural Gas Storage Facility Becomes Operational in Saudi Arabia

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Saudi Arabia announced that it has officially launched operations at its first natural gas storage project. The Hawiyah Gas Storage facility, developed by energy leader Saudi Aramco, targets to reintroduce up to 2 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day into the Master Gas System.

The Ministry of Energy said that the initiative will be crucial in assisting the nation in controlling its seasonal demand swings. It is anticipated that the program will assist in meeting the growing demand for electricity, especially during peak hours. Before the end of this decade, it seeks to replace about one million barrels of liquid fuel per day across a variety of sectors.

The Saudi administration has been promoting the usage of environmentally friendly through an effort coordinated by the National Center for Environmental Compliance. The program works with regional, national, and international organizations to assist private sector manufacturers in switching to environmentally friendly production methods.

Saudi Aramco has been trying to establish itself as a major participant in the market for liquefied natural gas. The company recently entered the foreign LNG market by acquiring a minority position in MidOcean Energy from EIG Global Energy Partners.
