SEATTLE (Oil Monster): TotalEnergies and SONATRACH have signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at concluding a hydrocarbon contract in the north-east Timimoun region in Algeria. The MoU calls for the appraisal and development of gas resources in the North-East Timimoun region by ensuring gas production at reduced cost and emission levels.

Commenting on the development, Julien Pouget, Senior Vice President Middle East & North Africa, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies said that this MoU reflects the company’s shared willingness to expand its strategic partnership with SONATRACH.

Earlier during the year, both the companies had extended their liquefied natural gas (LNG) partnership by extending their contract for partnership until next year. Accordingly, SONATRACH will deliver two million tonnes of LNG to TotalEnergies at the port of Fos-Cavaou, which in turn is expected to contribute significantly to energy supply security in France as well as Europe.

TotalEnergies has been a long-standing player in the Algerian energy sector. The company reiterated its commitment to support Algeria’s economic development by launching new investment programs.
