At the present time, Yorkston Oil Co., Inc. owns and operates: Yorky’s Markets in Whatcom County,Washington Commercial Fuel Network (CFN) sites in Whatcom and Skagit counties, distributes to unbranded dealers, and serves numerous independent and commercial accounts with heating fuels, industrial / motor oils, marine fuels, and on and off road fuels. The company was founded in 1939 by Adrian W. Yorkston, as Hardwood Fuel Company selling mill ends from lumber mills to homeowners to heat their homes. As time evolved, furnace oil became the popular fuel to heat homes. That is when Hardwood Fuel Co. became a Signal Oil distributor and changed its name to Yorkston Oil Co. Adrian’s sons’ Barney Sr. and Tom became involved in the company and soon took ownership when Adrian retired. Tom retired in 1997 and Barney retired in 1999. Today, Yorkston Oil Co., is still independently owned and operated by Barney’s 3 sons in Bellingham, Washington.
Industrial and Motor Oils
We carry and support Shell and Texas Refinery quality products and Evolution Sorbent Products. We also have access to other brands. Our warehouse is open M-F 7:30am to 4:30pm and is located at 2801 Roeder Avenue in Bellingham.
Marine Fuel Supply
We have been delivering over the dock fuels in Bellingham for many years. We have a 1600 gallon and a 4000 gallon tank truck that frequents the waterfront in the spring, summer, and fall. Most over the dock deliveries are handled at the “saw tooth” dock at the Bellingham Harbor. However, if pre-arrangements are made we can deliver to many other locations in and around the waterfront in Bellingham, Sandy Point, and Blaine.
Biodiesel
Biodiesel (fatty acid alkyl esters) is a cleaner-burning diesel replacement furl made from natural, renewable, agricultural resources such as soybeans or rapeseed (canola), or cooking oil from restaurants. Just like petroleum diesel, Biodiesl operates in combustion-ignition engines, including cars, trucks, heavy equipment and boats. It can even be used in oil-based home heating systems.Blends of up to 20% Biodiesel (mixed with petroleum diesel fuels) can be used in nearly all diesel engines, boilers and generators, and are compatible with most storage and distribution equipment. These low level blends (20% and less) don’t require any engine modifications and can provide the same payload capacity and range as diesel. Pure Biodiesel (B100) has a solvent effect, which may release deposits accumulated on tank walls and pipes from previous diesel fuel use. This release of deposits may clog filters initially and filters should be replaced after the first 24 hours of Biodiesel use. There is no evidence that lower-blend level such as B20 have caused filters to plug.
