WPPI Energy is a not-for-profit, regional power company serving 51 locally owned electric utilities.
Our mission is to deliver reliable, low-cost wholesale electricity, as well as provide superior services and advocacy that offer exceptional value to our member utilities and the customers they serve.
As public power utilities, our members value local ownership, local control and commitment to customers. Each utility operates independently on a not-for-profit basis. Keeping revenues within local communities helps make them great places to live and work.
WPPI Energy members are stronger together, achieving through joint action what would be costly and difficult to do alone. Together members own generation resources and transmission assets, offer cost-effective programs and services for customers, share technology resources, and advocate on behalf of customers. As a result, WPPI Energy members are better equipped to operate successfully as the industry changes.
The 75+ WPPI Energy support services, customer programs and community support programs help member utilities lower their costs; better serve their customers; stay current with evolving technologies; and remain competitive in the industry.
Support services fall into three main categories:
Delivering a diverse, flexible power supply is WPPI Energy’s core purpose.
Through our joint action agency, our 51 member utilities own generation and transmission resources, make joint power purchases, and share the cost of implementing new technologies – all of which helps members maintain reliable service and stable costs for the 200,000 homes and businesses they collectively serve.
Having a diverse power supply means relying upon a mix of energy sources to reduce the impact of market fluctuations, changes in fuel prices and regulatory requirements. Flexibility means varying the terms, and the amounts, of energy and capacity of our resources.
WPPI Energy is built on the principle that all members should have the opportunity to participate fully in decision-making for the organization.
Our Board of Directors is comprised of one representative from each member community. The full board elects an 11-member Executive Committee responsible for overseeing our business affairs and making recommendations for action by the board. A professional staff of 97 led by President and CEO Mike Peters handles day-to-day operations.
