Our History
In July of 1987, three young engineers with entrepreneurial spirits - Paul Redmon, Bill Higgs and Felix Covington - launched a new engineering company named Mustang Engineering. The trio met while working together at an offshore engineering company. They witnessed Houston’s oil industry bust of the mid-80s and the negative effects it had on its employees. With the desire to create a company embodying security and personal growth for its employees, building efficient and effective teams and providing a project approach of integrity and innovation, they founded the company on the mantra People Oriented…Project Driven®.
“People first” became the core of who Mustang is, so it only made sense to call the employees Mustangers. The heart of the company deserved its own recognition and that continues today.
As the company grew, so did the importance of employee events and activities, as well as giving back to the community. Each year, the company sponsors multiple activities worldwide within its offices, allowing Mustangers to build camaraderie with each other and their families. The founders modeled the spirit of giving back to local communities and, along with employees, created the Heart of Mustang (HOM), providing fundraising efforts for Mustangers in need and local charities and community groups.
The success of the company over the years has been recognized locally, nationally and internationally. Multiple awards have been achieved, global offices have been developed and over a dozen markets have been served within the oil and gas sector. Having begun in the offshore community, over the years Mustang Engineering has grown beyond offshore and, now, has dedicated markets in onshore, LNG, oil sands, process plants, industrial, and automation and controls, expanding its services globally.
None of these achievements went unnoticed, including with leading international energy services company Wood Group, PLC. Wood Group acquired Mustang Engineering in 2000, and the company eventually became Wood Group Mustang.
The values inspired behind the vision of Wood Group Mustang remain today and are the DNA of the organization. Those core values are Safety & Assurance, Relationships, Social Responsibility, People, Innovation, Financial Responsibility and Integrity, and each of these define who we are, what we do and what we believe.
