White Mountain Biodiesel Announces Plans to Expand Plant Capacity and Begin Direct Sales of Biodiesel to Retail Customers
NBB member White Mountain Biodiesel, LLC announced today that it has begun the expansion of its plant in North Haverhill, NH. The expansion, which will occur over the next two years, will include a 10,000 square foot addition to its existing facility and the installation of 1,186,000 gallons of additional processing and storage tanks. Upon completion of the planned improvements, the plant will have increased its nameplate capacity from 3,000,000 gallons per year to in excess of 16,000,000 gallons per year. When completed the plant will be the largest in New England. The improvements will be made using proprietary technologies developed by White Mountain over the last 9 years of operations. The planned improvements will also result in significant cost reductions as a result of increased plant efficiencies. Presby Construction has been hired to complete the new building addition, and the tank installation, piping, pumps and electrical improvements will be completed by the experienced staff of employees currently employed at White Mountain. As part of the plants' operational improvements the company has begun the purchase of its own fleet of tankers and pedal trucks to enable sales of blends as high as B99.9 to retail customers within New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. White Mountain is working directly with Suntec pumps and other manufacturers to develop a reliable pump configuration to enable home heating systems to function reliably on higher blends of biodiesel. All the trucks acquired will be pre 2007 models without DPF or DEF systems enabling them to be operated on high blends of biodiesel. These vehicles will also be used to pick up used cooking oil from New England collectors and for the delivery of glycerine and other waste products to New England digester facilities.
White Mountain has also begun taking legislative action in the State of New Hampshire to qualify biodiesel as part of the State's Renewable Fuels Portfolio and has submitted its first set of documentation necessary to receive its BQ-9000 designation. The company is exploring options with Caterpillar to supply generators capable of running on B100 to supply all the electrical needs to the expanded facility.
