History

George Westinghouse, a spunky teenager with a head full of ideas, seized opportunity after opportunity to make technology better, faster and more efficient. In the process, he helped improve the way people live. He started a company, then another, then dozens of them. His ventures survived him and continued to evolve through decade after turbulent decade into forms he couldnt have predicted, but would no doubt have understood.  Westinghouse supplied the worlds first commercial pressurized water reactor (PWR) in 1957 in Shippingport, Pa. Today, there are more than 430 nuclear power reactors in operation worldwide, with a net installed capacity of 370,543 MWe. Westinghouse technology is the basis for approximately half of these reactors, giving Westinghouse the worlds largest installed base of operating plants.

Westinghouse Global Quality strives to develop and implement strong processes that allow Westinghouse to achieve world-class quality on projects and manufactured products, and create a company-wide culture that drives flawless performance.  The Westinghouse Quality Management System (QMS) applies to activities that affect quality and is implemented within Westinghouse to ensure that order requirements for items and services are met. From order entry through design, manufacturing and servicing, activities are controlled in accordance with the commitments of the QMS. Westinghouse is both ASME and ISO 9001 certified.

INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP AT WESTINGHOUSE

Since that time we have remained dedicated to the pursuit of technical excellence and innovation.  We are proud to have a vast and varied team of world-recognized technical experts who develop, test and refine Westinghouse technology in engineering disciplines that span the nuclear industry. We perform analysis, experiment, test and refine—all with the aim of supplying the highest quality and most reliable products and services.  Our research and technology organization is composed of experts from a variety of disciplines, including nuclear analysts and experimentalists, heat transfer and fluid engineers, electrical engineering and instrumentation and control specialists, and chemical engineers. They collaborate with the Westinghouse Materials Center of Excellence, along with other centers of development within Westinghouse.  Engineers in the technology development component also perform special, advanced consulting work for world organizations, and provide advanced consultation and guidance in technology-leading activities (accident tolerant fuel, nuclear fuel cycle design and closure, and more).  We strive to continually improve all of our products and services and deliver the most advanced nuclear technology, the most reliable nuclear fuel, and the most innovative plant maintenance technologies.

Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel is a single-source fuel provider for PWRs, BWRs, AGRs and also VVERs worldwide. We are the worlds leading integrated supplier of nuclear fuel products and services.  We have global delivery reach through our manufacturing plants in Columbia, South Carolina (USA); Springfields, United Kingdom; Westinghouse Sweden AB (Västerås, Sweden); the European Fuel Group (ENUSA partnership); and Nuclear Fuel Industries (NFI) (Tokai/Kumatori, Japan).
