Westervelt utilizes renewable biomass to produce wood pellets, an alternative to fossil fuels used to generate electricity by utility providers worldwide. Our vertical integration provides access to a strategically located land base certified to recognized forestry standards. From our manufacturing facility in Aliceville, Alabama, finished wood pellets travel via barge down the Tombigbee River to the Port of Mobile. After transfer to sea vessels and a trans-Atlantic voyage to Europe, they are used by utilities to reduce and/or replace coal in generating electricity.
Sustainability
A land resource organization, The Westervelt Company is committed to preserving land for future generations. Our business activities meet or exceed environmental, legal, and regulatory requirements, and we robustly pursue new practices that embody our sustainability mission. At Westervelt Renewable Energy we work closely with company foresters, wildlife biologists, ecological specialists, wood procurement managers, and others to ensure that wood fiber from company lands and third party sources is from sustainably managed sources.
