The Weedoo Story 

Our family owned a property on a pristine lake where we enjoyed summer vacations. This crystal clean lake with sandy limestone beaches was heaven. In the morning the sound of loons was the wake up call. It was paradise! But things began to change. The water became unsafe to drink, weeds began growing and spreading. At first it was only a nuisance but after a number of years the lake weeds became so abundant that swimming, fishing and boating were seriously jeopardized.

As this condition magnified covering larger areas of the lake the government through the local Conservation Society commissioned a study. They concluded that the cause was due to run off of phosphoric fertilizers from urban and agricultural development. It was an alarming situation as each summer the weeds were taking more of our lake. Further studies revealed this to be a worldwide problem. Our paradise had changed to a sorry state and it was heartbreaking.

 Scientists and conservationists agreed that the long range solution was to reduce the amount of fertilizer entering the water and the short term was to kill the vegetation with herbicides. Restrictions on the use of fertilizer would take decades to show any meaningful results and the use of chemical herbicides posed danger as many studies questioned their long range effects.

Another discovery was becoming apparent. Once the vegetation was killed by the herbicides it decayed and sank to the bottom creating a fertilized base for the regeneration of new and stronger growths. It appeared that a financial bonanza was developing for the chemical industry with no other practical solution.

 We began investigating other ways to solve the expanding weed problem without using chemicals. Plant eating microbes, weed hungry fish, dyeing the water black were among some of the options being tested but all had very limited success. Most conservationists were of the opinion that cutting the weeds below the water surface and harvesting them for compost was a workable and the environmentally correct solution.    

Over the next few years we designed several harvesters with cutter attachments and as our technology improved a new type of small workboat was developed. Our concept was that it had to be safe, easy to launch, easy to use for clearing all types of waterway
contamination. It had to be practical and affordable to tackle many jobs encountered by aquatic contractors, marina operators and waterfront home owners. The end result was the environmental friendly WEEDOO.

     In 2005, we designed the 300 series, a small fiber-glass/aluminum vessel resulting in some revolutionary improvements. Just over 10 feet in length with a broad beam and a walk on checker-plate deck with vegetation collecting attachments, a mini workboat that could be loaded with many times its weight with AquaVeg refuse or cargo. The WEEDOO has several propulsion options including the popular twin-wave drive with joy-stick finger tip control. Other special features include a powerful swing arm underwater mower and cutter system that can mow AquaVeg at a depth of 4 foot continuously. This swing-arm cutter also has theability to trim shoreline weeds. Another very practical feature is the Lakesavers skimmer/bagger attachment designed for fast removal of algae and duck weed. All the accessories are connected through easy to use, quick-change modular elements so you can change from one attachment to another depending on the application. The Weedoo 700 extractor/carrier is a terrific commercial Weedoo transportation trailer that has a special built in extractor system that is integrated into the trailer and becomes operational after the WEEDOO vessel is launched. This special feature can remove high volumes of vegetation and refuse from the WEEDOO deck or when required directly from the water.
