Thyssengas GmbH, headquartered in Dortmund, is one of the leading gas transmission system operators in Germany. The company can look back on a 100-year history, during which it has developed great expertise.
It was in 1921 that our predecessor company built the first gas transmission system in Germany, carrying out pioneering work in many fields for the entire sector. The Thyssengas infrastructure is mainly located in North Rhine-Westphalia (north-west Germany).
Thyssengas covers a significant proportion of the energy needs of many important industrial operations and provides heat to millions of people across the country. Using its 4,400-kilometre-long underground transmission system, the company annually transports around six billion cubic metres of natural gas – one-tenth of Germany’s entire consumption. The gas is delivered to more than 1000 exit points leading to subsequent networks, industrial customers and power stations. In this way, Thyssengas supplies around 20 percent of Germany’s population.
Thyssengas is connected to national and international transmission system operators (connection points in Belgium, the Netherlands and to the Nordsee pipeline out of Norway). In addition, Thyssengas links to many important storage facilities in Germany.
