Our History

Sunlight Solar Energy’s founder and President, Paul N. Israel, is a New Hampshire native who earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Paul began working for Ralph Nader’s Consumer Advocate, a D.C.-based energy purchasing cooperative in the early 1980’s. After his exposure to the energy sector, Paul became interested in its vast impact on our planet and society. He joined a solar thermal start-up company through a referral from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) at a time when grid-tied solar electricity did not exist and President Reagan had phased out all solar incentives. Seeing only one utility in the United States that supported solar, Paul moved the thermal start-up to Sacramento in 1988 and again to Eugene, Oregon when its local utility began to consider solar-based solutions. Sunlight opened its first solar electric location in Redmond, Oregon in 1997 and later in Bend. From 2003-2015, Paul expanded his company by opening four more offices in Portland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Colorado. Sunlight currently installs in seven states and maintains a strong reputation in the residential sector while growing rapidly into commercial enterprises.

We are certified solar photovoltaic installation professionals through the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). NABCEP is the most established and widely-recognized certification program in the field of renewable energy. Obtaining a NABCEP certificate involves extensive testing and the completion of OSHA’s Outreach Training Program for the Construction Industry. We ensure that each of our systems meets the standards set forward by both organizations.
