Since 2007, Southeast Biodiesel LLC has manufactured biodiesel at our North Charleston, SC, manufacturing facility. Constructed on industrial brownfield property on the former Charleston Navy Yard our facility is capable of converting up to 5,000,000 gallons per year of waste cooking oils and other feedstocks into high quality advanced renewable fuel suitable for use in all diesel vehicles and engines. Our facility is registered with and regulated by the EPA, SC’s Department of Health and Environmental Control and the IRS.
The growth of heavy truck traffic in South Carolina, and particularly in the city of North Charleston is a challenging feature of our current economic growth and success. Each gallon of biodiesel consumed in a truck engine means a substantial improvement in air emissions and air quality. North Charleston’s air quality. Biodiesel emits about 80% less Carbon Dioxide, the predominant greenhouse gas, than regular petroleum diesel. It also reduces emissions of Carbon Monoxide, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (like Benzene) and Particulate Matter (i.e. smoke).
Proud to be located in the city of North Charleston in coastal South Carolina, our company enjoys both the friendly business climate and the year-round pleasant living climate of the Low Country. Located in the former US Navy Yard at Charleston harbor, we are close to the port, as well as terminal storage and rail facilities. Within easy trucking distance of the ports of Jacksonville, FL, Savannah, GA, and Wilmington, NC, our location offers convenient loading opportunities for the bulk fuels industry. From our location there is ready access to the raw material suppliers and finished product consumers throughout the southeastern United States.
After employee and public safety, our quality management processes are the most critically important part of our business. Our product is bought by organizations with stringent quality requirements; is consumed in expensive diesel engines and it contributes to atmospheric emissions (albeit 80% less than petroleum diesel). As a fuel it is monitored for taxation by SC-Dept. of Revenue and the IRS. Precautions against the risks of pollution, whether occurring at the point of production or as the fuel is consumed, are regulated and supervised by SC-DHEC and the EPA. We are proud of our record for meeting and exceeding testing and auditing programs mandated by all of these agencies.
