South Sound Solar is your local solar expert. A family owned business, based in Olympia, we are the South Sounds leading solar installer. Installing Residential and Commercial Solar Hot Water and Solar Electric (PV) at affordable prices, we make going green simple.  South Sound Solars goal is to educate consumers and communities, encourage them to change the way they think about energy and to empower them to become energy producers. Through our outreach, products and services we strive to benefit the environment and the economy.

Our founder and president, Kirk Haffner, has been interested in the green energy movement for 40 years. As a former high school STEM teacher and with a UW Masters in Physics, he realized solar is an excellent renewable energy source for the Northwest. Education is a key focus for our company and we participate in local events and community outreach to explain the benefits of solar.

Custom Proposals

Our Solar Sales Specialists create a custom proposal based on your unique needs. We use professional shade analysis tools to find the ideal location for the array and if shading is an issue, we will discuss a ground mounted solar array. We will go over your budget, energy usage, and possible Financing Options. No two customers or solar arrays are the same. We make sure yours is right for you. 

Monitoring Every Array

At South Sound Solar we include a solar monitoring package with all of our installations. Most solar technology has monitoring incorporated, but when it doesnt we exclusively use eGauge. eGauge can also be added to any system. Monitoring tracks the energy production of your array, either through real time data or a log, depending on the product installed. Monitoring is a great way to inspect the performance of your system. For energy enthusiasts, eGauge is able to track energy all across a building, generators, lights, appliances; even electric car chargers can be monitored. It allows home or business owners to monitor their usage, and view their solar production all on the same display.

Utility Solar Incentives

Net Metering is occasionally referred to as “spin the meter backwards”. Solar customers are able to use the electrical grid as a battery, storing extra energy in the summer as credits, and then using the energy credits in the winter. When more solar is produced than can be used, the extra power is sent to the utility as a credit. The credits then are automatically redeemed when you are more energy is being used than the solar system is producing. 

Financing

We have partnered with Local Lenders to help with your financing needs. Low interest loans are now available with no home equity required. South Sound Solar customers receive a special reduced interest rate from our partner lenders – starting at less than 4%! Agricultural and Small Businesses can apply for USDA Rural Energy grants that funds 25% of the installation.
