Back in 1926, Henry and his brother Albert had an opportunity to enter the petroleum industry as mechanics and gasoline attendants. Due to the young mens strong work ethic and natural ability to administer the finest customer service, they became known as "the two nice Dutch boys" at the filling station on Lincoln Avenue in Hawthorne. Word spread quickly and business dramatically increased. They soon purchased the business and that became the beginning of a long legacy of success for the company. Armed with enthusiasm for customer service, they worked night and day to build their empire.  They soon purchased more and more gasoline filling stations and then began building their own. All the while they also grew their heating oil and diesel fuel company, intending to be the best in the marketplace. They hand-picked employees and led them by example to be part of their dream. In retrospect, throughout the long careers of "the two nice Dutch Boys" they amassed hundreds of service stations, and built a strong bond with their heating oil customers in northern New Jersey. Although Henry is no longer with us, he instilled the spirit of his dream in everyone at Shotmeyer Brothers. He was at the helm right up to the end, when he passed away at 100 years young. He came to work every day; it was his favorite pastime.  Long time President, Charles P. Shotmeyer, passed the torch to his son, Charles H. Shotmeyer as President, and Charles P., is now CEO. They each in turn inherited their fathers work ethic, and run the company with same dream and passion. There is always family on board continuing the legacy of "excellence in service to our customers.

For our part, we support the Boy Scouts of America, the Valley Hospital Foundation, the Christian Health Care Center, the Hawthorne Boys & Girls Club, and Hackensack University Medical Center. Most of our customers prefer automatic delivery because they dont have to worry about how much fuel is in their tank. It is easy, convenient and FREE. We monitor your fuel use based on past usage and the weather, using our advanced degree-day tracking system. We then make deliveries accordingly, to avoid any risk of a run-out.3
