Charles Nelson’s professional career began with the Exxon Corporation as a Reservoir Engineer at the King Ranch in South Texas. While with Exxon, he held various positions of increasing authority within the company’s Exploration and Production Division.
In 1992, after 16 years with Exxon, he founded his own company, Sarita Energy Resources – a domestic independent oil-and-gas company with the singular objective of developing and enhancing both new and existing oil properties. While still leading Sarita Energy Resources, he opened the doors to Sovereign Royalties in 1998.
Charles is a practicing Petroleum Engineer and a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. He is a current member of SPE, SPEE, IPAA and TIPRO. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University and an M.B.A. from the University of Houston.
Sarita Energy Resources operates oil-and-gas properties and participates in non-operated holdings. The company develops and enhances existing production, while also growing organically through land acquisition and development of output drilling.
For its organic growth, Sarita stresses quality over quantity in oil-and-gas prospect generation. The company’s single most important goal is the creation and assembly of quality drilling opportunities based on a thorough integration and refinement of all available data. Complete integration of geology and geophysics, along with reservoir and production engineering, is necessary to help mitigate risk. This goal is accomplished by acquiring 3D seismic data, reprocessing when necessary, and applying other geophysical techniques such as prestack migration, AVO, velocity correction, depth conversion and amplitude inversion. The seismic is then interpreted within the proper structural and depositional geologic framework.
Other key factors contributing to Sarita Energy Resources’ success are diversity and flexibility. Sarita has grown a diversified exploration and production program concentrating on land in four separate but distinct producing trends: South Texas, Kansas, Middle and Lower Texas Gulf Coast, and West Texas/Southeastern New Mexico. Within these four regions, Sarita has the flexibility to play oil or gas, close-in or wildcats, deep or shallow. Because of these factors, Sarita takes advantage of rapidly changing market requirements within the energy industry and thereby maximizes return on investment. The leadership of Sarita believes it is critical to remain focused in areas in which it has a competitive advantage gained from its extensive experience and expertise.
