Our History
Larry Renner who was a Union Oil, (later Union 76), distributor in Garberville, California founded Renner Petroleum in 1961. Larry had a basic strong belief that customers needs should be consistently met or even exceeded. As a result of his strong customer service, the company grew and expanded. In 1979 Larrys son Mike became a part of the company and the name was changed to L&M Renner, Inc. Larry has since retired and Mike now runs the company under the name Renner Petroleum. Mike is committed to providing the same level of quality and service upon which Renner Petroleum was founded. Customers demanded low cost, quality fueling stations and Mike supplied those with the 24-hour Cardlock fueling system. The addition of Monitor and Rinnai Heaters brought clean, efficient heating equipment to the markets Renner Petroleum serves. In April of 1999 the company added to their product line and started carrying multiple lines of oil products for distribution and sale. These products are marketed to industrial, automotive and agricultural companies up and down Californias north coast and southern Oregon. Californias Redwood Coast Renner Petroleum has a long history of serving the north coast and anticipating the needs of its customers. Renner Petroleum and its employees also have a long standing tradition of commitment to the community and plan on continuing that tradition.

Fuels
Premium Quality Gasoline (91 Octane) provides excellent performance in automotive, marine and commercial gasoline engines designed to use leaded or unleaded gasoline. Marine uses include most inboard and outboard engines. This gasoline contains a detergent additive, which cleans and helps prevent deposits on fuel injectors, carburetors and intake valves thereby increasing performance and reducing exhaust pollutants. Its high-octane quality greatly reduces "run-on" or "dieseling" as well as "knock" and "ping" problems. Volatility is adjusted seasonally to provide easy starting in the winter and freedom from vapor lock in the summer.
Midgrade Gasoline (89 Octane) is a superior grade, unleaded automotive gasoline with an octane rating midway between most regular and premium gasolines. It has usage and detergent characteristics that will satisfy the requirements for more of the current auto population, including cars, which can use leaded gasoline. Marine uses include most outboard and some inboard engines.
Unleaded Regular Gasoline (87 Octane) regular grade, unleaded automotive gasoline with seasonal and detergent characteristics similar to those above. This gasoline is designed to satisfy the needs of many late model cars with average octane requirements. Marine uses include most outboard and some inboard engines.
Racing Fuel is a unique product carried by Renner Petroleum. These high-performance gasolines can only be used legally for off-road applications. This gasoline is made from high-octane gasoline stocks such as alkylate and toluene. This gasoline maintains the same quality year round and includes the same detergents found in consumer grade gasoline. While no seasonal adjustments are made, its front-end volatility means it will not cause vapor lock on even the hottest racetracks. It is recommended for all race car events where gasoline is used as fuel, such as formula, sport and stock car races.
Pure Gas Now Available Pure gas should be used in all your small engine and outboard motor applications. Three problems Ethanol can cause:
It is a Water Magnet - It will pull water out of the air right through your gas tank vent hose. In our high-humidity climate this can be especially harmful to your engine. As moisture is absorbed, the molecules of alcohol/water become heavier than the gasoline in the tank, and they settle at the bottom. This process is called "phase separation".
Unstable Octane Levels - Due to ethanols high octane rating, if enough water is present in a fuel tank the ethanol can migrate to the water layer, dropping the octane level. This will leave you with lower octane fuel in the tank, and if the separated mixture becomes great enough to reach the fuel pickup tube, it will be sucked up into the engine, where it can clog filters, carburetor jets and fuel injectors.
Solvent Properties - If there is any gum or varnish build up in your tank, the alcohol will dissolve these deposits, and they will be sucked into the engine fuel system. If that werent bad enough, the alcohol and water combination mentioned in #2 may also encourage the growth of bacteria in the fuel tank which turns into sludge and damages the fuel system.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid
Were excited to announce the availability of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) at the pump at our Arcata CardLock site. It will also be available at the pump on March 1st, 2013 at our Eureka-Del Norte St. and Scotia sites. It is still available in 2.5 gallon containers at our retail sites in Eureka, Fortuna and Garberville. California Legislation: In January 2010, diesel emissions legislation was enacted in the state of California after it was proven that diesel fuel emissions are hazardous to public health. This legislation requires NOx emissions to be broken down into nitrogen and water. This was achieved by requiring the use of DEF in newer diesel vehicles.. DEF is a mix of 67.5% de-ionized water and 32.5% urea. It is used in conjunction with selective catalytic reduction technology. It is sprayed into the exhaust and combines with a catalyst to break NOx down into nitrogen and water.

Propane
Propane(C3H8), also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LP-gas), is one of the nations most versatile sources of energy and supplies 3 to 4 percent of our total energy. Propane can be either a liquid or a gas. At normal atmospheric pressure and temperature, it is a non-toxic, colorless and odorless gas. Just like natural gas, an identifying odor is added so it can be readily detected. Under moderate pressure, propane becomes a liquid that vaporizes into a clean-burning gas when released from its storage container. Propane is 270 times more compact as a liquid than a gas, making it economical to store and transport as a liquid. As opposed to relying on foreign sources, approximately 90 percent of the United States propane supply is produced domestically. Seventy percent of the remaining supply is imported from Canada and Mexico. Natural gas production accounts for 53 percent of our domestic propane supply, while 47 percent is produced from the refining of crude oil.
