Solar photovoltaic systems work very well in Wyoming because we have few overcast days and an annualized average sun day of 5.3 hours every day. Our temperatures are also cooler than others so our solar panels work more efficiently, producing more energy while the sun shines. This mostly overlooked fact is so important that solar panel manufacturers publish these temperature co-efficients on their brochures. We prefer to install solar panels on ground mounts instead of roof mounts, wherever possible, because the solar panels run considerably cooler. Roof mounts are used when there is not enough space or there is tree or building shading on the ground. The optimum solar installation will receive unshadowed sun between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at minimum. Solar panels should face south at an approximate 41-44 degree angle (angle is the same as your latitude).
We are passionate about solar, because we know it works. Purchasing raw land, and being quoted $50,000 to run power (back in 2002) we decided to go solar. Proudly, our first 15watt panel is still producing and running DC lights. The cabin and barn are completely off grid using solar/battery power with generator backup. We met Gene and Deb at the local fly shop, before they owned a solar company. Our first "big" panel @175watts and Outback products were purchased from them when we discovered their enterprise in the solar world. Through fishing and solar, our relationship grew, Mark being their head installer for 5years, and Stacey part time.Range Solar and Wind, Wyoming's Trusted Renewable Energy Company, is in the new and very capable hands of Mark & Stacey and continues the quality it was established with. The dynamic duo as they are often referred, have broad backgrounds, and very much live Wyoming's rugged lifestyle. Stacey, going to Penn State University for AG Business and Mark going to Montana State University for Engineering, make a great match for the business. In their rare off time, they enjoy their animals, fishing and hunting. So far, the business has been able to give support to the Arbor Day Foundation, Civil Air Patrol, Histori Corps, local 4-H and FFA projects and Idaho University fish studies.
