About Company

Ram Power, Corp. ("Ram Power" or the "Company") (TSX:RPG) is a renewable energy company focused in the business of acquiring, exploring, developing and operating geothermal power projects to address the growing demand for green energy in the United States and around the world. Founded in 2008 as Ram Power, Inc., by a highly experienced geothermal project development and management team, the Company combined with three publically traded Canadian geothermal power companies in October, 2009 to take advantage of the economies of scale in project development. Ram Power Corp., as the new corporate platform has an interest in geothermal projects in California, Nevada, Nicaragua, Canada and elsewhere. The Companys mission is to become a leading global renewable power project developer and supplier of clean and reliable geothermal power

Why Invest

  • Ram Power has a large portfolio of geothermal projects located in California, Nevada, Nicaragua, and British Columbia with signed power purchase agreements for up to 335 MW in California, and 72 MW in Nicaragua.  The Companys Imperial Valley, Geysers, and Nicaragua projects are all located in regions well known for their world class geothermal resources.
  • Geothermal energy is power extracted from the heat stored in the Earths core.  The Earths internal heat naturallly flows to the surface by conduction, and is replenished by radioactive decay of minerals.  Consequently, the life-span of geothermal power generating facilities is expected to exceed 50 years.
  • Ram Powers management team is comprised of recognized leaders in the geothermal industry, bringing over 100 combined years of experience in the field. Our senior staff members bring decades of experience earned in major geothermal energy companies in diverse areas that include: exploration, well-field development, project development, engineering, construction, permitting, operations and finance.
  • As world demand for clean, renewable energy continues to rise, it is expected that by 2015 there will be a shortage of stable and steady sources of power in the world energy market.  Geothermal power is a cost-effective, reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly source to meet that demand.  Ram Power has secured land rights to over 161,000 acres in California, Nevada, Canada, and Nicaragua with power purchase agreements totaling 634 MW for development.
  • Geothermal energy production relies on hot water and steam to drive a turbine.  The lack of reliance on fuel (be it fossil fuel or uranium) reduces the fuel price risk associated with many other types of energy production.

Geothermal Power Plant Technology Dry Steam Power Plants

Steam plants are the most cost effective technology when the geothermal resource produces dry steam. In these plants, steam is passed directly through a turbine to generate electricity. They are commonly used at areas such as the Geysers in Northern California.  The Dry Steam technology allows for the steam from a geothermal production well to be fed directly to a steam turbine without a secondary heat exchanger. The turbine then coverts the change in steam pressure to mechanical rotational energy, which is converted to electrical energy by a generator.  Although dry steam geothermal power plants may emit marginal quantities of hydrogen sulphide (H2S), nitric oxide (N2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), these emissions are much lower per energy unit than those of fossil fuels, and the incorporation of gas mitigation systems to remove these small amounts make geothermal power an emission-free source of electricity. As a result, geothermal power has the potential to help mitigate global warming if widely deployed in place of fossil fuels.

Flash Steam Power Plants

It is more common for very high temperature geothermal fluids (above 350o F) to be produced from a geothermal resource. This high temperature pressurized fluid is passed through a low temperature tank which allows a portion of the flow to "flash" off as steam, which is then directed to a turbine to generate electricity. The remaining spent geothermal fluid is either returned for reinjection or, in some cases, may be used for additional energy generation in either a dual flash cycle or in a "binary bottoming cycle" power unit where a second flash tank is used to separate the fluid at a lower pressure to drive the turbine and produce more power.

Binary-Cycle Power Plants

For lower resource temperatures (300 to 350o F), it is more efficient to transfer heat from the geothermal fluid to a secondary fluid (with a lower boiling point -- typically a hydrocarbon such as isobutane or isopentane) that vaporizes. These vapors will then drive the turbine, which generates electricity. Such plants are called "binary" since a secondary fluid is used in the actual power cycle.
