NRG Systems started making innovative, high-quality products for the wind industry in the early 1980s. As climate challenges became more numerous and complex, we expanded our offerings to include smart technologies for a range of wind, solar, and meteorological applications. We believe that the need for more efficient energy, cleaner air, and a safer environment, is not bound by country or continent. That’s why we developed groundbreaking systems that allow us to ship our products to any project site, anywhere in the world. It’s also why our team is constantly on the move, zigzagging the globe to speak at conferences, meet with customers, and lead trainings and installations everywhere from Yangshuo to Saskatchewan. Whether we are in the field, at our desks, or at home, our team is driven by a common set of values and a unified vision – a world powered by sustainable resources. This is our purpose and it inspires everything we do, how we do it, and what we strive every day to help create. We support like-minded nonprofit organizations, champion climate change awareness through education and activism, and incentivize our employees to lessen their carbon footprints. We work hard to maintain a work environment that celebrates integrity, advocacy, respect, and growth, so that our employees can feel good about coming to the office every day. We believe strongly in providing fair compensation, nurturing personal and professional growth, and sharing the benefits of our success. Over 40% of our employees have been with NRG for ten years or more – a testament to their passion and dedication to making NRG’s vision a reality. We are proud to be part of an industry intent on forging a more sustainable path. Together, our work will have profound and lasting impacts on the planet and its inhabitants not just today, but quite possibly forever.
MISSION
Shape our future with smart technologies for global resource sustainability and climate challenges.
WE ARE PIONEERS.
We revolutionized the way wind resource assessment was done over 36 years ago. Today, this heritage of innovation informs everything we do. As we continue to design and manufacture smart technologies for a more sustainable planet, we are driven by the same spirit of ingenuity that has guided us since the beginning. This also holds true for our dedication to maintaining a workplace that fosters personal growth, balance, and fulfillment. Our wellness initiatives – which have been in place since before they were de rigueur – give employees the tools they need to be the best versions of themselves, at work and beyond.
WE ARE BELIEVERS IN SIMPLICITY AND USABILITY
. NRG Systems’ remarkably user-friendly products are designed with our customers in mind. Our solutions can be found in more than 170 countries – a testament to their technical adaptability as well as to our commitment to providing systems and services that function on a global scale. Starting with our responsive global sales team and extending to our short lead times and lifetime technical support guarantee, our dedication to straightforward, customer-centric support has strongly influenced how we help facilitate all phases of project development.
WE ARE RELATIONSHIP PEOPLE.
We are dedicated to making our customers’ lives easier. That’s why our team is constantly on the move, zigzagging the globe to speak at conferences, meet with customers, and lead trainings and installations. The insights gleaned from these experiences allow us to continually improve everything from our products and services to our internal processes, so that we can better serve our customers’ evolving needs. We have also enjoyed decades-long, trusted relationships with many of our dealers, technical partners, and vendors, and they have been vital to our longevity in this ever-changing market. Within our own walls, we continue to build a team that values loyalty, comradery, and community. Our comprehensive hiring process helps us get to know prospective employees on a variety of levels and vice versa. We have found that this holistic approach leads to stronger, more stable company growth and greater employee satisfaction.
WE ARE COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABILITY.
Our dedication to sustainability does not stop at our products. This is our purpose and it inspires everything we do, how we do it, and what we strive every day to help create. We support like-minded nonprofit organizations, champion climate change awareness through education and activism, and incentivize our employees to lessen their carbon footprints. We are always mindful of our own impact on the environment and continue to refine our processes accordingly, because for us, walking the talk is nonnegotiable.
WIND RESOURCE ASSESSMENT
Wind Resource Assessment Wind Resource Assessment (WRA) is the systematic collection of wind data at a potential wind farm site. Measurements of a variety of meteorological parameters are typically taken over the course of several years using a combination of met towers and Lidar. Wind farm developers are able to estimate the future power output of a variety of wind farm sizes and turbine arrangements, and they use this information to design the layout of the wind farm, secure project financing, and make other vital decisions. Building on more than 30 years of experience, NRG designs complete wind resource assessment systems and instruments that work together seamlessly and suit a variety of climates, terrains, and applications.
SOLAR MONITORING
Solar Monitoring Solar monitoring refers to the effort by solar project operators to continually observe and optimize the output from a solar power plant. A variety of meteorological parameters are collected at the site and used as the basis upon which to evaluate the system’s electricity generation. Inefficiencies at the module, string, and system-wide levels can be detected by tracking electrical output side-by-side with precise calculations of the site’s solar irradiance, temperature, and wind conditions. This information can be used to trigger real-time maintenance and to build optimal long-term preventative maintenance and cleaning programs specific to each site.
WIND PLANT OPTIMIZATION
Wind Plant Optimization As the global wind industry matures, more and more emphasis is being placed on wind plant operations. Owners and operators are focusing on increasing annual energy production and reducing operations and maintenance (O&M) costs. Increasing the production of a wind plant by only 1 to 2 percent makes an enormous difference in project economics, while increasing reliability and optimizing O&M practices drives down the levelized cost of energy. Maintenance costs, both unscheduled and scheduled, typically comprise 30-40 percent of the total operating expense of a wind farm. The biggest drivers of these maintenance costs are the main components of the turbine: the main bearing, gearbox, generator, and blades. Unfortunately, wind turbine drivetrains are not reaching 20 year lifetimes, and many of them suffer from component failures after several years of operation. These failures can be costly—replacing a failed gearbox can often cost in excess of $300,000, without accounting for turbine downtime.
SOLAR RESOURCE ASSESSMENT
Solar Resource Assessment Solar Resource Assessment (SRA) refers to the analysis of a prospective solar energy production site with the end goal being an accurate estimate of that facility’s annual energy production (AEP). As the designer, manufacturer, and provider of equipment used to conduct measurement campaigns in support of that goal, we at NRG often use the term “SRA” in reference to site-specific measurement. That is, the systematic collection of “ground truth” meteorological data for the purpose of lowering the uncertainty of the AEP estimate.
