The company started operations in January 1982 for Conoco at the Milne Point field and later expanded into operations in the Kuparuk field on the North Slope of Alaska for ARCO Alaska. In 1985 Nordic Well Servicing formed a joint venture partnership with Calista Corporation and Nordic-Calista Services was created. Founded in 1972, Calista Corporation (Calista) is one of the largest of the 13 regional corporations formed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971. It is a business corporation formed under State and Federal laws, including the Settlement Act and its amendments. In the Shareholders’ Yup’ik Eskimo language the name “Calista” translates to “Cali” which means work and “ista” which means someone or something which does. On January 1st, 2020, Nordic-Calista became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Calista. The company will continue to provide the benefit of its extensive knowledge and experience to each and every customer.
