Home Oil Company Meyer Oil was started in the 1950s by Edward and Sarah Meyer, hence the name. Arthur and Bette Moon worked for Edward and Sarah Meyer for a number of years. Because at some point Ed and Sarah wanted to retire and scale back their involvement, Art and Betty took responsibility and ultimately purchased the company from them. Art and Betty owned the home oil company for nineteen years, when we bought it from them in 2003. Art and Betty also were ready to scale back what they were doing. Betty was ready to do something different and Art simply enjoyed delivering the fuel. He liked being out in the field, seeing the customers. He was tired of running the business end of things. Paying the bills and being the bad guy saying, "I am sorry but we are not delivering more fuel until you cough up some money". Since Ryan Suemnicht and Amy Suemnicht took over the business, Art worked for us close to ten years, when he decided to retire.
Growth of Meyer Oil & LP
Meyer Oil & LP home oil company has gone through a number of changes. When Ed and Sara had the business they still delivered to gas stations. Art and Betty did for a while too but got out of it when gas stations upgraded to bigger storage tanks. If a truck at the time held only 2000 gallons and a storage tank was 5000 gallons, they couldnt fill a tank in one go. The whole market changed and gas stations were now buying directly from fuel brokers rather than smaller intermediates like us. The home oil business didnt shrink but changed with the loss of gas stations. Then over the last ten years there has been a lot of change in the heating industry since fuel oil is a dying way of heating your home. People are going to natural gas if they live in town. Or to LP gas if they live out of town and away from a natural gas line. As people are buying new furnaces we are selling less and less fuel oil every year. This prompted us to get into the propane business so that we could fill the gap of the customers we were losing. We could see things were picking up on that end. We took a chance to see if it worked, and it has. The delivery of propane gas has grown every year for our home oil company. Home Oil Company PropaneIt also worked out nicely for our agricultural customers who were buying gas and diesel from us, but because at first we didnt offer that service had to get the propane for heating their house from somebody else. As soon as we started offering it they jumped right on board and got their propane from us too. Now they write one check for their fuel instead of a bunch of checks across different businesses. As a convenience for our customers we offer a little automotive stuff. Not as a huge seller, but as long as we bring you the diesel we can bring you a drum of oil too.
Mission
Meyer Oil & LPs mission is to provide prompt and courteous service in the delivery of fuel and related products to residential, agricultural, and commercial sites.
Agriculture
For agricultural purposes we deliver several kinds of fuel: dyed diesel for tractors and other farm equipment and gasoline with or without ethanol for use in mostly older tractors. Older equipment such as older tractors, the farmers tell us, do better on the gasoline without the ethanol. Since ethanol is made from corn however it is a renewable fuel. We further deliver bulk fuel for the heating of farms, and motor and hydraulic oil for tractors and farm machinery.
Commercial
For commercial purposes we deliver diesel for graters, back hose, loaders, and other heavy road construction machinery, as well as for back-up generators and other applications. We deliver gasoline to business locations for their company car or truck. Then we deliver bulk fuel and Propane/LP Gas for commercial heating. And finally we deliver and sell motor oil and hydraulic oil to manufacturing businesses and lumber companies.
Residential
For residential heating we deliver fuel oil and Propane/LP Gas and pump it directly into your storage tank. You can purchase gasoline at our gas pumps when you issue a credit card with us. We deliver kerosene in bulk and sell it in smaller amounts at our gas station. Kerosene is used for salamander heaters, and by our Amish customers in lamps, refrigerators, and washing machines. Finally we carry whatever viscosity and quantity you may need for changing your car oil.
Fuel and Propane Delivery Service Meyer Oil & LP delivers in Sauk, Richland, Juneau, and Vernon counties
propane deliveryMeyer Oil & LP serves clients with fuel and propane delivery primarily in Sauk, Richland, Juneau, and Vernon Counties. We deliver approximately in a 25 mile radius. For a larger volume we will drive a little further. We carry a bulk minimum of 125 gallons for fuel delivery, and 200 gallons for propane delivery. That is our break-even point based on the cost of the fuel versus the cost to run the trucks and pay our drivers. For a delivery charge we will deliver smaller amounts.
Our Fuel and Propane Delivery Trucks
Our fuel and propane delivery trucks hold roughly 2700 gallons. As we get calls, we keep a log of all the calls we get every day for what people are looking for. The drivers organize it into efficient delivery loads. That way they know they have 2000 gallons of diesel and 500 gallons of gas. They drop it off at the various sites, come back and refill their trucks and start over. The tanks on our trucks have five different compartments, and if we need to we can hold five different kinds of fuel at the same time. Except for propane delivery, in that truck, it is just propane.
Fuel and Propane Delivery "Year-Round"
Fuel Delivery Four SeasonsThe winter months are busiest for delivery of heating oil. But there is never not a busy time. Starting the end of September we work on harvest. Starting in October, depending on the weather, we start on home heating with fuel and propane delivery, which carries us through March. Then the farmers are back in the fields for spring planting. There is an overlap with planting and still heating, if the weather is not warm enough. Once the heating season is done, towards the end of April, we are tearing down trucks. We focus a lot on getting fuel out to the farms, so they can get their crops in the field. Once crops are planted, between mid-June and late July until September when harvest starts again, we are working on trucks, fixing them, getting everything ready to go because we will have nine months of running around again. In the summer time we offer contracts to our LP customers to lock in their price for propane delivery during the upcoming heating season. So they will have what they need.
Fuel and Propane Delivery "Within 24 hours"
We usually deliver within 24 hours. If a customer calls in the middle of January and tells us their tank is empty and their house is getting cold, we can get there a little sooner than 24 hours. We will make sure they dont freeze to death overnight. For the average person who calls in and asks us to bring them 200 gallons of diesel, we will get it to them today if we have time yet, otherwise for sure we will bring it tomorrow. Then some people ask to be put on the schedule for a certain month. We can deliver on specific dates. Vacation homes for example. If they call us and tell us they will be up from Chicago this week, we can deliver them fuel or propane while they are there. That works out really well. We can get any amount of fuel within a day. We can deliver LP gas in the amount of whatever your tank holds. Some people have a two hundred gallon, some a five hundred gallon and some a thousand gallon tank.
