MacFarlane Energy Founder, Peter MacFarlane, was born in Bostons South End in 1919. Son to a widowed mother of three, Peter began working in the oil business at the age of 12. He worked part time, after school, delivering oil in five-gallon cans. PeterMacFarlane.jpgFollowing his service in the Pacific Theatre of World War II, Peter returned to the oil business he had worked for before the war. In 1946, he purchased the business and established Peter MacFarlane Oil Inc. MacFarlane Oil started as a one-truck operation. Peter delivered the oil, serviced the burners, and installed new equipment by himself. Peters wife Frieda managed the bookkeeping and correspondence, while raising a family of five. Since MacFarlane Oils inception in 1946, we have continuously achieved new levels of performance. Peter worked to improve the Waltham Shell Head burner, along with Stanley Peterson from the Waltham Oil Burner Company. Since the passing of Peter MacFarlane in 1987, his son Scott has operated MacFarlane Energy. A Needham resident, Scott continues this tradition of self-improvement in order to pass the benefits on to our loyal customers. He is an active member of the Needham Rotary Club for over 30 years and served as Chairman of the Massachusetts Oilheat Council and as Director of the New England Fuel Institute, the Massachusetts Oilheat Council and the American Energy Coalition. Scott has also served on numerous energy related committees throughout his years of service in the company.
Our Experts Deliver Superior Service
The biggest difference between MacFarlane Energy and our competitors is the outstanding performance of our service department. It is easy to take heating and cooling technicians for granted, but there are differences from company to company that affect your bottom line. MacfarlaneVan1.pngFor example, new heating and cooling equipment must be installed with precision to deliver maximum comfort and perform at peak efficiency. In fact, the U.S. ENERGY STAR® program reports that an imperfect installation can diminish equipment efficiency by 30 percent. Technicians are the only line of defense between you and an equipment breakdown. MacFarlane Energy technicians are well prepared and committed to serving you. They inspect components carefully, make proactive repairs and adjustments, and report any significant findings to you. MacFarlane Energy technicians deliver superior performance every day, because they are fully prepared. We maintain a training facility at our Dedham headquarters where technicians receive regular training from our managers and manufacturers representatives. Our technicians carry advanced diagnostic equipment, and their service vans are well stocked with replacement parts. Perhaps most importantly, MacFarlane Energy employs more technicians per customer than most companies, so our technicians are dispatched promptly and provide your service call or installation the time it truly deserves. This ensures prompt service by our technicians to your service call or installation. MacFarlane strives to maintain a good staff-to-customer ratio.
Heating Equipment & Installations
MacFarlane Energy installs and services a wide variety of heating systems. These include conventional oil-fired heating systems and natural gas heating equipment, as well as various high-tech appliances that can completely revolutionize your home comfort experience.
Effective Solutions for Indoor Air Pollution and Low Humidity
Indoor air quality problems can take a toll on your familys comfort and health. Dust, particulates, household chemicals and allergens can accumulate. This makes the air in your home dirtier than the air in a large, crowded city, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Some homes also have problems with insufficient humidity. During the winter, dry indoor air makes people more susceptible to winter colds and the flu, and causes damage to your homes wood floors, frames and furnishings. Dry air also makes our bodies feel cooler - causing you to raise the thermostat, and therefore use more energy. By maintaining the proper level of humidity indoors, you can have a healthier, safer and more comfortable home ... while lowering your energy bills! iS_16600711.jpgMacFarlane Energy has answers. We can test your air quality, and if there is a problem we can install a whole-house filtration system that works with your heating and/or cooling system to remove nearly all airborne pollutants. Many systems employ the same technology used by hospitals and high-tech factories to purify their air. Filter systems can be supplemented with UV lights that kill airborne mold and bacteria. We also install whole-house humidifiers that add moisture to the air as it is distributed by a warm-air heating system. Whole-house humidification can balance your air to improve comfort and health and prevent damage to wood.
Well Lead You to an Energy-Efficient Future
Energy prices have been volatile in recent years, creating uncertainty about the costs of such basic necessities as driving your car or heating your home. Fortunately, homeowners can assert some control over their energy costs through conservation. When you make home improvements that reduce your energy requirements, you limit your exposure to volatile energy prices and keep monthly expenses under control. Helping customers save energy is one of our most important jobs, and we offer solutions that can really make a difference:
Heating Oil
Heating oil is evolving toward greater cleanliness and renewability, and we are preparing to adopt new fuel blends as they become more available and affordable. The heating oil industry is actively promoting the use of ultra low sulfur heating oil, which offers cleaner emissions due to the reduction of sulfur content. That cleaner fuel will be blended with renewable biofuel to create a blend that burns with very low emissions while helping to reduce demand for petroleum.
Biofuel Blends
The heating oil that MacFarlane Energy delivers today is a mix of petroleum and biofuel, and we will look to increase the biofuel component of the fuel (and reduce the petroleum content) as biofuel becomes bioheat-logo.pngmore available and affordable. A blend of 95 percent petroleum and 5 percent biofuel is already approved for use in all heating oil systems. Biofuel is made from organic materials such as plants and waste cooking oil.
