The roots of Lokman Recycling Inc (Lokman Geri Kazanım AÅž) lie in the Lokman Hekim Health Foundation , which was founded in 1986 primarily to provide health services to people in Turkey entirely on a not-for-profit basis. A few years later, it was decided to add recycling (in view of the positive contributions which it makes to the environment) to the range of activities which the foundation undertook to generate revenues in order to carry out its mission. Since 1989, the LHSV has been collecting discarded and scrap paper, beverage cans, plastics, PET containers, end of life tires, and used printer cartridges. Because the income secured from these activities is used to finance the foundation’s health services, in effect LHSV is making health from trash! Forty people are currently employed by the foundation in the conduct of its recycling activities. LHSV was the first NGO in Turkey to engage in this effort on a voluntary, regular, and non-profit basis.
Believing that it was necessary to give these activities, which had been initiated at a time when recycling and its importance were just beginning to gain recognition in Turkey, a more professional structure and also with the idea of extending the concept of recycling into newer areas, in 2002 Lokman Hekim Health Foundation decided to set up Lokman Recycling Inc.
ent” from collecting waste when it is created to the moment it reaches the recycling/disposal facility.
Throughout this process, we identify waste potential, draw up an inventory based on types of waste, and sort waste according to whether or not it is recyclable.
Recyclable waste is taken to our refuse-derived fuel (RDF) processing facility to be recycled while non-recyclable waste is taken to disposal facilities that have been designated by authorities.
The packaging materials which we are so accustomed to using nowadays have evolved tremendously in the course of time. What once took the form of earthenware vessels, leather and woven sacks, and wooden crates have acquired much more economical and practical forms and their materials consist primarily of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and metal.
By law, both domestic and foreign manufacturers (or the representatives /importing agents of the latter) whose names or trademarks appear on packaging are required in Turkey to comply with a number of rules in order to deal with the environmental effects caused by the discarded packaging of goods which they supply to the market. Under these regulations they must:
* Formally declare the amounts of packaging waste they cause to come into being
RDF Processing Plant Management

We can produce fuels from both hazardous and non-hazardous recyclable waste. We supply such fuels to factories that are equipped with systems that allow them to make use of such alternative sources of energy.
We engage in RDF production at our own facilities. We also provide management and operation services for concerns such as cement plants which have RDF processing facilities of their own.
We engage in RDF production at RDF processing facilities which are owned by other concerns and whose management and operation we undertake. We are currently involved in the operation of the RDF processing facilities of the Akçansa Büyükçekmece and of the Oyak Aslan Darıca cement plants
