Solar cells, also called photovoltaic (PV) cells, convert sunlight directly into electricity. PV gets its name from the process of convert energy from the sun (photons) to electricity (voltage), which is called the PV effect. These cells don't need direct sunlight to work – they can still generate electricity on a cloudy day. All year round the Solar PV system will generate electricity that means a reduction in the amount you use directly from your supplier, thereby reducing your bill. Combined with battery storage it can be even more effective.
