Geothermal heating and cooling systems take advantage of the natural, even temperature several feet beneath the Earth’s surface.  A loop of pipes is installed underground, which circulates water. In the winter, these water pipes absorb the relative heat beneath the earth and deliver it to a heat pump, which warms your home.  In the summer, the reverse of this happens because the temperature underground is cooler than the outside air.
