Renewable Energy
IEP is an active investor and developer of renewable energy projects, primarily focused on solar and wind energy generating assets. Our mandate is to achieve attractive financial returns while furthering the advancement of clean energy, identifying opportunities across the project life cycle – from pre-construction to power generating assets.
Solar Rooftop
A rooftop photovoltaic power station is a photovoltaic system that has its electricity-generating solar panels mounted on the rooftop (also parking lots) of a residential or commercial building. In most cases, the system is designed for self-generation purposes, and depending on the regulatory environment and net metering rules, the electricity produced is consumed onsite and excess electricity may be sold into the grid.IEP invests and finances rooftop solar solutions with credit worthy counterparties. Such systems allow for greater independence from the grid, visibility of electricity prices through PPAs or lease agreements and typically result in lower cost energy.
Solar Hybrid
Hybrid power systems are designed for the generation of electrical power. They are generally independent of large centralized electric grids and are used in remote and non-interconnected areas. Hybrid systems by definition contain a number of power generation devices such as photovoltaic, micro-hydro and/or fossil fuel generators. This solution is a way to bring renewable lower cost energy to remote communities or areas, where electricity tariffs often are significantly subsidized due to the high diesel and transport costs. IEP works closely to help entities plan, develop and finance such solutions through an Energy Service Company (“ESCO”) platform utilizing a PPA structure.
Solar Utility
Utility-scale solar systems are larger photovoltaic (“PV”) systems that produce solar generated electricity that is fed directly into the grid, supplying the utility with clean energy. These systems benefit from economies of scale, which reduces the cost to produce energy. The energy offtake is defined by a Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA”), which is a long term contract between the solar energy producer and the utility. In certain states, legislation allows for net-metering, whereby the energy generated from the solar system is used on-site, typically by a business or municipality, and excess power is purchased by the utility at a pre-determined price and fed directly into the grid. IEP invests in utility-scale solar projects that have high quality offtakers either through PPAs or net-metering arrangements.
