Indian Point Energy Center (IPEC), located in Buchanan, N.Y., is owned and operated by Entergy Corporation, one of the nation’s leading owners of nuclear power plants. IPEC is home to one operating power plant, Unit 3, which has safely and reliably generated emission-free electricity to help power New York City and Westchester County since 1976. Throughout its history, IPEC has had a strong presence in the southeastern region of the state and continues to be a significant contributor to the community as a corporate philanthropist, taxpayer, employment provider and environmental steward. Under an agreement between Entergy and New York State, Indian Point Unit 2 and Unit 3 will permanently shut down by April 2020 and April 2021, respectively. The settlement provides for an early and orderly shutdown in exchange for New York State supporting Indian Point’s license renewal and dropping its legal challenges. Indian Point Unit 2 permanently shut down on April 30, 2020.
