Gryphon is an oil and gas company focused on acquiring non-operated working interests alongside premier operators in select resource plays across the Lower 48. We take a modern approach to investing in oil and gas, blending advanced data analytics with fundamental E&P technical knowledge to form a better understanding of risk and potential returns. Gryphon was formed in 2019 in partnership with a global private equity firm.
Our Leadership
- Claire founded Gryphon in 2019 and serves as Chief Executive Officer. Claire is a private equity veteran, having spent close to a decade at two private equity funds, Pine Brook Partners and TPH Partners. Earlier in her career, she worked as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital, primarily focused on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions for oil and gas companies. Claire has served as a director on several oil and gas company boards and also currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Texas A&M University Finance Department as well as the Texas A&M University Petroleum Ventures Program. Claire earned a BBA in Finance at Texas A&M University, where she was also a four-year letterman for the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Volleyball Team. In addition, Claire earned an MBA from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.
- Mike is a serial entrepreneur who has over 45 years experience in the upstream oil and gas business. Mike was founder and CEO of private equity backed Gulfstar Petroleum Company, Gulfstar Energy, Inc., Gryphon Exploration Company and Stonegate Production Company, LLC. Prior to founding his first company, Mike was Vice President of Business Development, for international independent and LNG developer Roy M. Huffington, Inc. He also served as a director, President and CEO of Cheniere Energy, Inc. Mike was a commissioned officer and served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a BBA in Finance and subsequently attended the University of Texas as a special student studying Petroleum Engineering and graduate business. He has served on numerous boards at Texas A&M and on the boards of several publicly traded companies.
- Greg co-founded Gryphon in 2019 and serves as Chief Investment Officer. Previously, Greg was Chief Financial Officer of Accelerate Resources, a private equity-backed non-operated E&P company focused on the Permian Basin. Prior to joining Accelerate, Greg served as an investment professional at Pine Brook Partners, an energy and financial services focused private equity firm. Greg began his career in the upstream A&D group at the boutique energy investment bank Simmons and Company. He received a B.S. in Finance and Corporate Reporting from the Carroll School of Management Honors Program at Boston College, where he graduated cum laude.
