Green Energy Options (GEO) is a source for technical support, system design, installations and advice about energy efficient home heating and solar energy. At our family-owned store, in downtown Keene, customers can have a hands-on experience, ask questions and become completely informed before buying.
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY:
Pablo Fleischmann was twenty-two years old when he moved to New Hampshire to live with his wife, Valerie Piedmont, in the "backwoods" cabin she had built from scratch. Together they continued to design and expand what is now their familys four-bedroom, off-the-grid home and bustling bed and breakfast. "In the old days we hauled water, cooked on a woodstove and read by candlelight in our non-electric home. It was a great way to raise children," says Valerie. "Little by little we upgraded; we purchased a gas stove, a gas refrigerator and started buying components for a solar-electric (photovoltaic; PV) system. On Labor Day of 1989, we hooked up our first light bulb. Our house now supports the various and many needs of hundreds of guests each year, curious to experience the peace and joys of off-grid living." By opening Green Energy Options, Pablo found a way to blend all of his talents and experiences into a rewarding career. "Green Energy Options allows me to do something personally meaningful, while making a difference in the world. The time is right and people are seeing how they can be part of the solution." We help customers make energy efficient choices while saving money at the same time. In 2015 GEO partnered with The American Lung Association to improve the quality of air in Keene by participating in the Woodstove Changeout Program.Nearly 150 inefficient woodstoves in our community have been replaced by EPA Certified high-efficiency woodstoves. Each replaced stove represents a decrease in particulate emissions. This means that people are breathing cleaner air. GEO partners with The Sustainability Project, a non-profit educational organization founded in 2000. The Sustainability Project promotes a love of nature, environmental stewardship and caring communities living in harmony with nature. This partnership blends technology and humanism to solve the social and environmental problems of our times.

THERE ARE MANY REASONS TO PUT A SOLAR ELECTRIC ARRAY ON A HOUSE
Most solar electric systems connect to the grid and reduce or eliminate the amount of conventional power supplied to them through the grid. A grid-tied system produces power from solar energy and your house remains connected to the power grid. In the summer, the system may produce more energy than the user needs, spinning the meter backwards. In the winter, the system produces less, and the user draws the balance from the grid. The system is sized to neutralize their energy bill over the course of the year, not on a daily or monthly basis. Solar systems typically have a working life of 35+ years, typically with a 25 year production guarantee on the panels. This means that in 25 years the panels will still produce 80% of their original rating. The panels themselves have no moving parts and are quite durable. Roof installations are common. Ground mount systems are also popular, but add about 20 percent to the total cost.
A RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEM CAN SUPPLY ALL YOUR ELECTRICITY NEEDS.
Some people, especially those in remote areas, store the electricity from their systems for future use, and are not connected to the grid. These are called OFF-GRID (stand-alone) systems. Off-grid systems are scaled to be able to produce enough power for the users throughout the entire year. Most systems in the northeast USA will need some form of supplemental power (typically a generator) to get through the sun-limited winter months. Because off-grid homes are less standardized than on-grid homes, so are the solar electric systems that go on them. When trying to size an off grid system, it is best to estimate the daily load of electricity required, and how many days without sun youll need the system to operate. This determines the size of the battery bank, the number of solar panels, etc. We design and install systems to meet your needs.
