Our leadership team is unlike any other, starting with our CEO, Steve Smith, whose roots run deep in the geothermal industry and whose care for customers, dealers, distributors, and employees cant be beat. In 1983, Steve was introduced to geothermal heat pumps as Director of Member Services for an electric cooperative in southwestern Illinois, and later, he assisted in the start-up and management of a geothermal distribution company owned by a group of electric cooperatives. With a mission to take care of his customers, Steve and his wife, Karen, started Enertech Inc., a dedicated geothermal systems distribution company located in Greenville, IL. The company purchased a manufacturing facility in Mitchell, South Dakota in 2007 to manufacture geothermal heating and cooling brands, including GeoComfort Geothermal Systems. Enertech Inc. grew to become Enertech Global, and the company and its brands are now part of NIBE Climate Solutions. Steve advocates for the geothermal heating and cooling industry as a whole, serving as a member of the Geothermal Exchange Organization, actively participating in speaking engagements, and sharing his expertise in articles, but his favorite place to be is in the field helping with an installation or solving problems.
Why GeoComfort?
GeoComfort Geothermal Systems are proudly built with the highest standards of quality in the heart of America, Mitchell, South Dakota. Our commitment to continuous improvement and quality control has made reliability one of the GeoComfort brands greatest assets. Many heating and cooling brands claim to have the most thorough testing. We actually do. Each GeoComfort Geothermal System is ran and monitored before it leaves our factory. We stand behind our systems with the best warranty in the industry. Our specialized component selection and advanced design gives GeoComfort Geothermal Systems a competitive advantage. An industry first, all of our vertical-packaged units have micro-channel air coils, preventing corrosion for a longer lifespan and further reliability. ECM blower motors are standard on all GeoComfort equipment. These variable-speed motors ensure quiet start-up and operate at a fraction of the cost of a conventional blower motor. GeoComfort systems give you more. Hot water generators are standard with all GeoComfort geothermal units which allow you to capture unused heat and apply it to water heating, typically cutting hot water costs by 25 – 40%. Unit for unit, our systems have higher heating capacities than our competitors, which means lower heating costs when compared with other geothermal brands. When you purchase a GeoComfort Geothermal System, you become a member of our family, and this family is dedicated to making sure your system keeps you comfortable for its lifetime.
Financial Incentives for Geothermal Heat Pumps
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act adopted in October 2008 allows for a 30% tax credit for costs associated with ENERGY STAR qualified geothermal heat pumps installed in residences, as noted in section 25D of the Internal Revenue Code. The 30% credit applies to geothermal equipment placed in service through 2019. Tax credits will still be available at a reduced rate until 2022.
Incentives in the United States
Any geothermal equipment meeting ENERGY STAR requirements at the time of installation is eligible for the residential geothermal tax credit. The geothermal system must be installed in the United States in a home owned by the taxpayer. The tax credit applies for geothermal installations in new and existing homes. The credit is equal to 30% of the total system cost, including installation costs. There is no limit to the number of times the credit can be claimed, so if the taxpayer has more than one home, the credit can be claimed for each home where geothermal equipment is installed.
We Think Differently
Our approach to geothermal technology is different. As we work to make the best products better, we always take into account the needs of homeowners, builders, architects, designers, and our dealer and distributor network. Without input, we wouldn be able to succeed. Lets continue making the best products better.
Electricity Generation and Savings
A PV solar arrays output peaks mid-day when the sun is at its highest point in the sky, which can offset the most expensive electricity when daily demand is greatest. This will help reduce or eliminate monthly electricity and utility bills while providing a pollution-free electricity solution. Basically, you are getting free electricity! Depending on your electric utility provider, net metering can be an option for customers. Net metering allows residential and commercial customers who generate their own electricity from solar power to feed electricity they dont use back to the grid to be used at a later time. This is like using the utility provider as a battery. For example, if the solar array generates more electricity than the house or building consumes during daylight hours, your utility companys electric meter will run backward to provide a credit against what electricity is consumed at night or other periods where the buildings electricity demand exceeds the solar arrays output. Any electricity pushed back into the utility grid is subtracted from the grid electricity used by the home. Customers are only billed on the “net” energy use. Check with your utility provider to see what their net metering program looks like.
