FIT, A Schlumberger Company, is a petroleum industry service company that specializes in laboratory analysis of trapped fluids in rock material, and advanced borehole gas analysis on drilling wells. The ultimate goal of these services is to enable clients to address petroleum systems and reservoir characterization problems. FIT was acquired by Schlumberger, Inc. in November 2015 and is apart of the Schlumberger Reservoir Laboratories family.
The Gas Cannibal
The Gas Cannibal is a constant volume pneumatic gas extractor. It maintains constant head space, thus virtually eliminates variations in gas readings due to pit level fluctuations (a common problem with fixed traps). The rugged design insures thousands of hours of maintenance free operation. The instrument has optimized performance resulting from comparative testing with other common gas extractors.
Fluid Inclusion Stratigraphy
Fluid Inclusion Stratigraphy (FIS) is a patented technique involving the rapid and complete analysis of trapped organic and inorganic volatiles in fluid inclusions from cuttings, core, or outcrop samples using quadrupole mass analyzers attached to an automated high-vacuum sample introduction system.
Fluid Inclusion Petrography and Microthermometry
Fluid Inclusion Petrography: Thick polished slides evaluated for fluid inclusion populations, abundance, characteristics, flourescence colors, kerogen, and bitumen.Microthermometry: Quantitatively determines API gravity, fluid trapping temperatures, hydrocarbon saturation state, hydrocarbon phase, and salinity.
PDQ-XRF®
PDQ-XRF® is an X-ray Fluorescence technique that provides elemental analysis of cuttings to be compared with FIS, petrography and photography in order to evaluate rock and cement types, interpolate spot trends defined by petrography to other portions of the data set, and used as a stratigraphic tool for well-to-well correlation and for retrospective horizontal wellbore mapping.
RockEye®
RockEye® provides a catalog of every sample in plane light and UV excitation. The archived images are much easier to manage than the samples themselves, and allow geologists to look at the rocks at their desks without relying on sample descriptions.
