About Company

PASSION FOR ENERGY TECHNOLOGY PROPELS US

We are an innovation-driven company with a straightforward vision – to make a big impact in energy.

FastCAP delivers out-of-the-box, technology-based solutions to the toughest energy problems. From record-breaking energy storage devices for hybrid and electric vehicles, to game-changing solutions for energy exploration, every FastCAP team member is compelled to positively impact the way we produce, use and store energy.

OUR HISTORY

In 2010, after six years of collaborative research at MIT, FastCAP began work under a multimillion-dollar grant from the DOE ARPA-E to develop its novel ultracapacitor technology for electrified drivetrain vehicles. The company was honored to be awarded another grant from the DOE Geothermal Technologies Program in 2011 to develop a cutting-edge power system for geothermal energy exploration.

FORWARD WE GO

After only two years of development under its ARPA-E program, FastCAP had broken four performance records related to the power and energy density of its cells. FastCAP has gone on to achieve an additional world record related to its work in geothermal energy system development. These breakthrough performance characteristics have laid the foundation for FastCAP's unique product solutions across the energy spectrum, from vehicles to energy exploration and consumer electronics.

UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL OF BASE LOAD CAPABLE RENEWABLE ENERGY

Geothermal energy production holds great promise to provide substantial and globally available renewable energy resources in the decades to come. Distinguished from intermittent renewable energy sources by its 24/7 and near ubiquitous availability, geothermal is the only renewable energy source that is capable of providing base load capacity to the grid. Widespread deployment would be a game-changing proposition.

To date, however, technology limitations have held back geothermal energy exploration, and technological advancements are essential to unlocking this vast resource. That's where FastCAP stands to make a big impact. The key to the success of geothermal energy production is the ability to cheaply and quickly pinpoint the most ideal and productive geothermal resources in real time during exploration. Technology capable of this has been utilized in the oil and gas industry for decades, but due to the drastically higher temperatures frequently encountered in geothermal wells, many oil- and gas-ready technologies are not transferable due to temperature limitations.

FastCAP is bringing its expertise in extreme environment energy storage to the table in a project funded by the DOE Geothermal Technologies Program to develop a first-of-its-kind geothermal power system for directional drilling that is capable of safely and reliably operating in the temperature extremes typically encountered during geothermal drilling operations (250C +). FastCAP expects to demonstrate a prototype of this breakthrough system in 2014.

UNPRECEDENTED PERFORMANCE FOR ELECTRIFIED DRIVE TRAIN AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE VEHICLES

FastCAP's validated world records in energy and power density will enable a new generation of cost-effective hybrid and electric vehicles. FastCAP's technology can help make widespread deployment of hybrid and electric vehicles an affordable and high-performance reality.

INTRODUCING FASTCAP'S ULYSSES POWER SYSTEMS FOR DRILLING APPLICATIONS

FastCAP Systems is dedicated to providing breakthrough technologies across the energy spectrum, and is excited to introduce its suite of novel power systems for oil, gas and geothermal energy exploration. These systems will enable a step change in the way energy is stored and utilized in drilling operations — allowing for safer, more efficient and less polluting energy exploration. That's good news for our customers, and for the environment.
