Elgin Energy was founded in 2009 following research into the German solar market and the founders’ first visit to Intersolar, Europe’s largest solar trade exhibition held in Munich. Their research unveiled the emergence of the UK solar market and associated opportunities.

Elgin Energy takes a long-term development approach across our selected markets and our business model was designed for both a subsidy and post-subsidy market. Initial development began in the UK in 2011, followed by Ireland in 2015 and Australian offices were opened in 2018.

From 2015, Elgin Energy began the pursuit of their “2020 Vision”. This vision was to deliver large-scale unsubsidised solar to the market from 2020 onwards. This thesis is now coming to fruition in the UK.

As of 2020, Elgin Energy has successfully obtained planning permission for 700MW across close to 60 projects. A further 3GW+ of projects are at late stages of development across the UK, Ireland, and Australia. Elgin Energy continues to scale in their core markets and expand their vision to 2025.
