Contura, whose new location is at 340 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., was formed by a group of Alpha’s first lien lenders when Alpha successfully emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July after a nearly year-long process.Contura acquired some of Alpha’s core coal assets and will operate in central and northern Appalachia as well as the Powder River Basin,It will employ more than 2,200 people throughout is operations — 90 of those will be in Bristol.Although those jobs are already filled, Tom Anderson, the city’s economic development director, said the move is still good for the city’s economy.
