Sheffield Superturn already had a well-established reputation for quality and reliability dating back to 1984. It was founded by Andrew Taylor to manufacture small to medium CNC machined parts, with its first base being Wadsley Bridge near Sheffield. The business quickly expanded; excellent quality of product combined with a commitment to customer service and reliability led to growth and the expansion into specialist areas, in particular the production of parts for use within the Oil, Gas and Subsea sectors
The next phase of growth was the purchase of Shillito Engineering, which included a much-needed extra 35,000 sq ft of manufacturing area on the modern Atlas North Business Park. With room to expand, the company continued to invest in new, more technically advanced machinery, increasing the machining capacity of the proprietary metal seals and drill tool parts produced for some of the world’s largest OEM’s in the Subsea tree and Offshore Oil tool industry.
X-Cel Superturn’s success in producing highly complex CNC machined parts in some of the toughest Nickel Alloys whilst maintaining an excellent on-time delivery and quality performance record resulted in a growing order book - and the need for further expansion to ensure that the global demand could be met.
A further addition came in November 2011 when X-Cel Superturn purchased
H.T Precision of Batley, West Yorkshire, specialists in CNC machined parts for UK valve manufacturers. Once again, expansion of the customer base meant that we outgrew the 6000 sq ft town centre facility and by September 2012 had moved to larger 14,000 sq ft premises on the outskirts of Batley. Investment in new machinery also increased our ability to supply the larger parts required by some existing customers and enabled us to meet the needs of other valve manufacturers in the UK.
Continued growth and diversification meant that our main manufacturing plant at Atlas North began to run out of space so a process of divisionalisation has been undertaken to ensure we maximize the production capacity of each of our bases. To support this objective, in June 2012 we moved the Gasket and Seal division to the prestigious Advanced Manufacturing Park in Sheffield. The Advanced Manufacturing Park, known as the AMP, is the new home for the UK’s nuclear advanced manufacturing and X-Cel Superturn’s neighbours include such prestigious names as Boeing, McLaren and Rolls Royce.
