CKenergy Electric Cooperative, Inc (CKEC), established in 2016, is the consolidation of Caddo Electric Cooperative and Kiwash Electric Cooperative.
As a private independent electrical business, CKEC is incorporated under the laws of the state in which we operate. We are established to provide at-cost electric service to the consumer/owner we serve. The cooperative is governed by a board of directors elected from the membership, by the membership, to set forth policies and procedures that are implemented by the cooperative’s professional staff. Most electric co-ops are distribution cooperatives that deliver electricity to the consumer.
In addition to electric service, most cooperatives are involved in community development and revitalization projects, such as small business development that create jobs, improvement of rural water and sewer systems, assistance in delivery of health care and educational services and assistance in home purchasing loans.
Cooperatives are operated to provide at-cost electric service to the consumer/owners. On the other hand, investor-owned utilities that are not co-ops are operated to maximize profit for the shareholders. A co-op’s net margin above expenses and reserves does not belong to the utility; it belongs to you the consumer/owner of the cooperative. The margins must either be used to improve or maintain operations, or be distributed to those who use the cooperatives products or services.
CKenergy Electric Cooperative, Inc. became official January 1, 2016 after memberships from Caddo Electric Cooperative, based in Binger, OK and Kiwash Electric Cooperative, based in Cordell, OK voted “yes” for the consolidation at their respective annual meetings in August 2015.
This step made history in the rural electrification program in Oklahoma as the first consolidation of two electric cooperatives.
CKenergy Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a member-owned, non-profit distribution cooperative that supplies electric service to its members in ten western and west central Oklahoma counties including Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Custer, Dewey, Kiowa, Grady, Roger Mills and Washita counties. CKEC has approximately 24,600 meters across 7,800 miles of line.
CKEC is headquartered in Binger, Oklahoma with a branch office in Cordell. CKenergy is divided into 12 districts. Each district holds District Meetings on a three-year rotating basis. Trustees govern the operations of your Cooperative, and hire a General Manager, who in turn, hires employees to work at your Cooperative. Trustees represent their respective District much in the same way a Representative represents his constituents in State and National Government.
