In 1997 the company changed direction and the farm operation was separated from what was to become Cannington Cold Stores as the family looked at diversifying.
They began storing cheese in the chilled storage facilities for local producers. What started with a small quantity quickly grew to over 3,000 pallets and other enquiries began to follow for this popular service. It was during this time that the company began working with Gerber Juice Ltd, which has led to a long-standing working relationship that we are proud to say still exists today.
Anaerobic Digestion was a process that was being quietly evolved in the farming community at this time but with very few completed plants already in existence. The family believed that by being early adopters of this technology they would not only be able to run their farm from the energy produced, they would also be able to sell energy back to the national grid, whilst offering a highly sustainable and green service, which fits well with the values of the family. Cannington Bio Energy was formed.
