About Company

Since the start of the company, we have always employed our own installers. Our team has carried out several hundred projects in the UK involving ground and air source heat pumps, biomass boilers, solar thermal panels, solar PV panels and underfloor heating. We offer turn key, “one point of responsibility” solutions including system design, supply and installation.

We are accredited under the government’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme for heat pumps, biomass, solar thermal and solar PV installations. This gives our clients access to government grants and is a guarantee that all projects are subject to a robust quality control. Our domestic clients benefit from our membership in the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) providing solid consumer protection.

We take pride in always giving our clients honest advice on what is the best solution for their property, both from a technical and financial point of view.

All our installations are specified and designed by a team of highly experienced building services engineers. For each project our design department produces a detailed project planning document including schematics, layouts, energy saving statements etc.

We use high performing products from well established manufacturers. Over the years we have developed relations with preferred manufacturing partners supplying us with high quality products at preferential prices and warranties. We will always recommend products with solid performance at competitive prices.

Our work consists of both commercial and domestic projects. For commercial clients we also offer a range of services on a consultancy basis such as feasibility studies, heat loss calculations and tender specifications.

Our head office is located in Hertfordshire.

More than 94% of our clients are willing to recommend us for similar work. They say they like our services because:

  • Our staff are friendly, helpful and you can expect a fast response
  • We are experienced, professional and knowledgeable
  • We always give honest advice
  • We are fully accredited and accountable
  • We offer high quality installations at a good value.

With government incentive schemes such as the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and the Feed In Tariffs (FIT) in place, it has never been more rewarding to generate your own heating and electricity.

OUR SERVICES

For our domestic clients our services normally consist of five steps:

1. Technical and economical feasibility

While some of our clients know exactly what they want when they contact us, others are exploring different options of energy savings. We discuss technical and economical feasibility of the various renewable technologies and we make sure that expectations are realistic.

2. Specification and system design

We need to do a preliminary specification already at quotation stage. This specification is done by the same building services engineer who will do the complete design of your project if you decide to go ahead.

Once the contract is agreed, we proceed with the detailed design and produce a Project Planning Pack. This document is intended both for internal use and for you as a client. It is the template our installers have to follow for the installation and it contains schematics, material lists, plant room layouts etc. plus other documents required by MCS and other regulations. As a client you should read this document carefully to make sure that our plans are in line with your expectations.

3. Supply and installation

The next step is the supply of the goods. Either we bring the material in our vans or delivery is made directly to site.

The equipment is installed by Better Planet’s own friendly installers. Our senior installers have been with us since the start of the company and with hundreds of installations under their belt, they are among the most experienced in the country. We don’t use subcontractors except for borehole drilling (heat pumps) and scaffolding (solar PV).

4. Commissioning and handover

One of our senior installers will commission the installation in line with manufacturer’s recommendations and clients preferences.

The responsible building services engineer, who has followed the project since the quotation stage, then prepares a comprehensive Handover Pack. This document is your reference for the future containing commissioning certificates, user’s manuals, warranty information etc.

5. Service and maintenance

Once the installation is handed over we offer:

a) Regular service

b) Free of charge repairs under our own warranty

c) Diagnostic work if something goes wrong with the equipment.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a government incentive scheme designed to reward those who use renewable energy to heat their buildings. There are two schemes: one for the non-domestic sector (industrial, commercial, public sector and community organizations) and one for residential homes.

The commercial scheme was launched in 2011 and the domestic scheme launched on April 9th 2014. It offers regular ‘tariff’ payments for seven years to those using certain technologies to heat their homes. The amount of money that’s paid depends on what technology is used.

Better Planet are MCS accredited and will help you benefit from the RHI scheme from start to finish. We ; * Help you complete a green deal assessment * Advise you on mandatory energy saving measures if required * Advise you when applying for RHI * Design and supply a renewable energy system for your property * Install and commission the system with our own staff.

FEED IN TARIFFS

Feed in tariffs is the main government incentive for small and medium size solar PV installations.

Clients benefit from ;

  • main tariffs
  • export tariffs
  • savings related to the electricity used on site

All installations are fitted with a generation meter recording how many kWh’s the system generate.

The main tariff is paid for each generated kWh.

The export tariff is paid for each exported kWh.

For installations up to 30kW, no export meter is required and it is deemed that 50% of the generated electricity is exported.
