Beauvent applies the cooperative principle to create social support for renewable energy in which as many people as possible participate and have a say. The cooperative currently unites more than 5000 equal shareholders who help build local, sustainable energy projects and enjoy the proceeds.
The year 2000, some families from the Westhoek share the idea of ​​leading a full life with less energy without sacrificing luxury. They find each other in their plans to convert their house into a low-energy house using ecological materials. Moreover, they want to provide their own energy with solar panels on their roof and a windmill in the garden. A small wind turbine turns out not to be profitable enough, which is why they encourage like-minded people to invest in larger wind turbines.
