- Early 2000's Back in the day biodiesel began its meteoric rise. Due to high oil prices and increased environmental awareness this renewable fuel made from vegetable oil reached unprecedented production levels. Although biodiesel helped, the process continues to produce approximately 1 pound of glycerin for every gallon of biodiesel. Glycerin inundated the industry and became a difficult problem to deal with
- 2003 Three bright minds at the University of Missouri, one of them an Ayas co-founder, understood there was an opportunity. They started working with the glycerin molecule and, like every other major discovery in the history of chemistry, inadvertently produced propylene glycol in one of their reaction beakers. Continued research and a lot of brainpower minted the first process approach. Since the developers were part of the University, the rights to practice were assigned to the institution
- 2006 Our technology became so groundbreaking that it was honored with the Presidential Green Chemistry Award. This is a prestigious annual recognition to chemical technologies that leverage green chemistry and apply it to chemical design, manufacture and use
- 2006-2013 Some advancements are made to commercialize the technology after the University of Missouri licensed out the process. We like to call this period "the dark age" as there was little to no commercialization effort or process improvements
- 2014 Although we were all disheartened, we really believed the technology could change the industry. We were passionate about it and said: "Enough is enough. It's time for us to control the rights to practice our technology"
- 2014-2015 The Ayas team worked diligently to make sure we would be able to control the licenses. Working with our own resources, which were few at the time, we developed a strategy to regain control of our technology
- 2015-2018 We founded Ayas Renewables, Inc. Hard work, passion and perseverance paid off and we finally had control of the licensing rights. Unfortunate as it was, we are grateful for that "dark age" period. If things had happened differently, you would not be reading this story! We made great advancements, making our process more efficient. We also built a pilot plant which is currently operating. Well over $3 million were invested by us during this 2 year endeavour

Today
Ayas is finally ready to commercialize its technology! We have a fine tuned process which has been vetted by several large multinational companies, and they love it. They say it is powerful, yet simple. We are currently working closely with several companies that have a substantial propylene glycol requirement. At the same time we are negotiating long term glycerin supply agreements with multiple suppliers in South America, Asia and the US.
