ATCO Gas is on-call 24/7 to respond to natural gas emergencies, including damaged natural gas pipelines, no heat, gas odours or carbon monoxide. In addition, our employees respond to service calls from customers for work such as meter moves and installations, appliance safety checks and relighting of natural gas appliances.
Our delivery rates are among the lowest in Canada. These rates, approved by the provincial regulator, the Alberta Utilities Commission, ensure utility rates in Alberta are fair and transparent.

Safe and Reliable Service
At ATCO Gas, we are dedicated to providing great customer service. We go above and beyond to ensure our customers receive safe and reliable delivery of natural gas.
In 2014, we invested nearly $300 million in capital work to connect new customers and improve the integrity, reliability and safety of our natural gas distribution system.
We regularly inspect our system to ensure its safety and integrity. Every month, we inspect steel pipe corrosion protection equipment. Annually, we take corrosion protection readings on our entire steel piping system and inspect large diameter feeder mains.
We examine in-ground service valves and perform leak detection surveys on our distribution system at least once every five years. Part of our comprehensive in-home service requests includes natural gas furnace and appliance safety checks.
Focused on Safety
Safety is a core value at ATCO Gas and in everything we do. We demonstrate this commitment by continually monitoring and upgrading our natural gas distribution system, providing safety training programs for our employees and through public safety initiatives. Our employees work with firefighters and first responders in emergency situations to ensure our communities stay safe. We also provide safety training for first responders on how to deal with natural gas emergencies.
Damage to buried natural gas lines can lead to personal injuries, service disruption, evacuations or even fatalities. Yet those damages are one hundred per cent preventable.
We proactively educate contractors, builders and the public on the importance of getting underground utilities marked and how to work safely around natural gas lines once they are located.
We also partner with the Office of the Fire Commissioner and local fire department to raise awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide and how to detect and prevent it.
And through our ATCO Energy Theatre, we make safety education fun by combing entertainment and education to teach students about natural gas and electricity safety.

ATCO EnergySense
Established in 2001, ATCO EnergySense is a service provided by ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric, which offers commercial and municipal energy assessments to help customers improve their bottom lines and reduce their impact on the environment.
ATCO EnergySense also operates the ATCO Energy Education Mobile, an interactive classroom on wheels, which travels throughout the province teaching students and the public about Alberta’s energy resources and how to use them wisely.
