In 1922, our founder, E. S. Koon, got his oil business start in Asheville, NC as a distributor for Atlantic. In 1930, Gulf Oil Corporation asked him to take over as the distributor for their products and the company moved to our present location at 4 Fairview Road. The company weathered the trying times of the Great Depression and rationing during World War II. Following the war, the founder’s son, G. N. (Nick) Koon, returned from service in the Navy to join his father in the business.  The company prospered following the war, expanding their services to include service stations, tires, batteries, automobile accessories, lubricants and waxes along with the usual gasoline, diesel and heating oils. During the oil embargo and shortages in the early 1970’s, we worked hard to keep our customers in product, applying for allocations and petitioning the Federal Energy Office for emergency supplies.  After graduating college in 1979, Nick’s son Karl joined the company full time. Having grown up in the company working summers and vacations, he had hands-on experience in all phases of the business. Since then, the company has become one of the leading lubricant marketers in Western North Carolina.  In early 2004, Asheville Oil Company acquired Smoky Mountain Petroleum, again expanding our range of services to include propane and HVAC service and installation. As the only fully integrated petroleum supplier in the area, we truly are the one source for all of your petroleum and indoor comfort needs.

Mobil and Exxon Branded Products

Asheville Oil Company is proud to be the authorized and branded supplier of Mobil and Exxon lubricants for 17 counties in Western North Carolina.  Selected in 1984 as their supplier and distributor of choice, Mobil and Asheville Oil Company have maintained a dominant role as a supplier of quality lubricants to commercial and industrial customers within our service area. With a complete line of lubricant products and related services in quantities ranging from bulk deliveries to cases of quart bottles, we are ready to meet the needs of a myriad of users and applications… from a large manufacturing plant to a small trucking firm.

Gasolines, Gasohol

 #2 Fuel Oil and K-1 Kerosene

As a provider of heating fuels for over 80 years, Asheville Oil Company has a tradition of reliably keeping Asheville area homes and businesses warm through many a winter season.  We make #2 Fuel Oil and K-1 Kerosene deliveries in as small a quantity as 100 gals and offer volume discounts for deliveries of 300 gallons or more to a single address.  Discounts are also available for seniors and those on our automatic Keep Fill program.  We also have the capability of deliveries in transport truck quantities of 7200 gals to large commercial and industrial users.

Propane, LPG

Propane has proven to be a popular choice of fuel for not only residential furnaces but also for cooking, drying clothes and gas log fireplaces.  Deliveries are made by our bobtail trucks to both automatic keep fill customers and will call customers who prefer to place their orders for delivery.  We also offer propane tank filling at our bulk plant located at 4 Fairview Road for grill tanks and 100 lb cylinders.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)

Asheville Oil Company is proud to be the distributor of Air1 Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) for Asheville and Western North Carolina.  We are the only local distributor to offer bulk deliveries of DEF.  We also have 330 gallon totes, 55 gallon drums, and 2.5 gallon jugs available.
