Arricks Propane is a family owned and operated propane provider. We have been operating for over sixty years with the same values we began with. From starting with a used pickup truck and a kitchen table to serving hundreds of our neighbors all across the Tri-State area of Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, our dedication to honesty, fairness and service has set us apart from our competition and built strong relationships between Arricks and the communities we serve.

OUR BEGINNING

The beginning of the story of Arricks Propane takes us back sixty five years. The year was 1952 and Ralph Arrick (Sr.) had finished college and had been teaching and coaching for three years at a small high school in Southern Ohio. At the time money was hard to come by for Ralph and his wife and small son. Ralphs stepfather, a construction foreman, knew that a large construction project was moving into the area. He knew that in Piketon, Ohio construction was beginning on an atomic enrichment plant. Ralphs stepfather suggested that Ralph could earn some extra money to help make ends meet by delivering propane bottles to the construction site part time. He knew that this project was going to be huge and the plans were for it to last three years. Trailer courts were being built to house the great influx of workers so there would be a great need for propane bottles for heating and cooking. A used pickup was purchased for Ralph to deliver the bottles in and he talked to Bob Litteral to fill the bottles. From then on evenings and weekends were filled with deliveries and from this a new business was born – Arrics Bottled Gas. When the three years of the project were complete and Ralph had earned some extra money, the small family assumed that everything would return to “normal” as they knew it.

THE EARLY YEARS

By 1958, two more sons had been added to Ralphs family, giving him and his wife three sons. In this year Ralph decided to build a gas station and the business expanded to be Arricks Gas and Oil with the addition of the delivery of fuel oils to customers  homes. Ralph felt that these two additions fit in well with his existing business of propane. So, bulk plant storage of fuel oils and propane were built and Ralph dropped his association with Pyrofax to become his own independent business with the help of his wife and 3 full time employees as well as a few part timers.  In 1963, a great opportunity arose for the small business. A bottle delivery and fuel competitor of similar size to Ralphs successful business was going to be sold. Although it caused some tough financial times and many loans had to be taken, Ralph seized the opportunity that was right in front of him.   Around this same time though the young family and business fell on some hard times as a truck wreck nearly took the lives of Ralph Sr. and his youngest son, Ralph Jr. The business hit a slump while Ralph Sr. was laid up for several months. Not long after the accident, natural gas came along and took nearly half of Ralphs propane customers. This, of course, caused a financial strain on the up and coming business.

2000 AND UNTIL TODAY

In the year 2000 a great loss to the business and the family behind the business occurred when Ralph Sr. passed away. In the 2000s Arricks has added two more family members to the business. Josh Greene, who is Ralph Jr.s son-in-law, was hired as manager of the South Portsmouth office. Josh is married to Ralphs oldest daughter Jayme and they have two sons. Josh has a Business degree from Shawnee State University. Ralph Jr.s youngest child, Josh Arrick was hired in 2008. Josh graduated in May of 2008 from Asbury College with his degree in Business Management. He was hired as Arricks Business Development Manager. In 2011, Arricks opened an office in Grayson, Ky serving Carter, Boyd and parts of Elliott County. In 2013, Arricks signed an agreement with Alliance Autogas, making Arricks the exclusive installer and servicer of Americas online complete propane alternative fuel program in our area. In 2017, Arricks opened a new retail office in Mount Orab, Ohio to better serve customers in western Brown, Highland, Clermont, Clinton and Warren counties. Arricks continues to be a family owned business. It has grown to include over 35 delivery bobtails, 3 semi transports, 7 retail offices, 7 satellite bulk plants and over 60 employees. A company that was started from a part time job that was going to last three years has now been in business for over sixty years.

Propane Delivery

Propane delivery is Arricks Propanes #1 service and top priority. We strive to deliver our customers propane in the shortest time possible. Arricks has 10 storage facilities and 23 bulk delivery trucks scattered over our service area to ensure timely delivery during the busiest winter months.

Professional Installation

Arricks Propane has trained employees to professionally install propane tanks and propane heaters. We also run gas lines and make connections to most gas appliances. Our employees are required to regularly attend training classes and safety seminars.

Automatic Delivery

We encourage customers to take advantage of this service that Arricks provides. Your life is busy enough without having to remember when to order propane, so leave that responsibility to us. After your first few deliveries we will accurately be able to determine when you will need more propane based on the weather.
