Archaea Energy is an emerging leader in developing renewable natural gas (“RNG”) which is a sustainable decarbonizing solution for high-carbon emission processes and industries that are impossible or inefficient to electrify.

The company began when Archaea's founders wanted to build a renewable natural gas (RNG) plant and convert the landfill they owned into a renewable energy center. The proposals they received did not meet the project requirements, and the cost was high. They weren’t sure if they could get a partner who had the capacity to deliver the project in a reliable and safe manner. Instead of accepting the status quo, the founders made the bold move to build the project themselves.

Their first RNG plant was completed for less than half the cost of outside estimates. This sprouted the idea that if they could formalize a cost-efficient manufacturing approach for RNG projects using the best available technologies and processes, they could achieve a competitive advantage with the thousands of landfill projects nationwide.

Archaea Energy was founded to redefine the industry by bringing a disciplined and sustainable approach to RNG project development. With funding from the Rice Investment Group and Saltonstall & Co. in 2018, Archaea assembled a world-class team of renewable energy experts and a portfolio of highly profitable RNG development projects. Archaea is on the path of developing the largest landfill gas (LFG) to RNG project in the world by the end of the year.
