About Company

American Power Group delivers innovative and proven alternative fuel solutions to the heavy-duty truck and high-horsepower stationary power generation industries

APGs technology converts existing diesel engines into more efficient and environmentally friendly engines that have the flexibility to operate on:

  • Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

  • Diesel and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)

  • Diesel and various sources of pipeline and wellhead natural gas

Users experience significant fuel savings with no loss of power and torque, normal maintenance cycles with high up-time, ability to transfer systems to other eligible engines at end-of-life, and the freedom to hedge against future fuel risks by returning to a diesel-only operation if required.     APGs Turbocharged Natural Gas® Dual Fuel System for stationary and vehicular engines has met specific anti-tampering design, componentry, and emission compliance criteria and guidelines as set forth by the EPA, including the new EPA Clean Alternative Fuel Vehicle Conversion regulations.

Applications

  • Return-to-Base Fleets

  • Oil & Gas Recovery

  • Over-the-Road Fleets

  • Primary Power

  • Heavy-Haul Applications

  • Emergency Backup Power

APG Technology

Dual Fuel technology is the simultaneous combustion of two fuels. In the case of APGs Turbocharged Natural Gas® Dual Fuel System, natural gas is used in conjunction with diesel fuel to power the engine. After the conversion, the engine can operate on either a mixture of diesel fuel and natural gas or on 100% diesel fuel.APG  Dual Fuel Technology does not interfere with the OEM diesel engine integrity.  Our conversion technology is designed to allow for in-field retrofit of diesel engines without the need to change or modify the design of the base OEM engine. The APG Dual Fuel System is a negative pressure system, utilizing the conventional diesel engine governor to reduce diesel fuel usage, as the higher energy value of natural gas and air is recognized at the point of the compression flash-point. The remaining diesel fuel provides proper engine lubricity and helps retain the power and torque of the base OEM diesel engine.     The APG Dual Fuel hardware configuration does not change any of the OEM diesel engine components. APGs read-only Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors and ensures OEM system parameters are always within performance specifications (oil pressure, coolant temp, exhaust gas temperature, manifold air pressure, diesel fuel pressure, etc.). The ECM will not allow natural gas to flow unless the base diesel engine parameters are within a standard operating range, which also means the engine starts and idles on diesel only.     The APG Dual Fuel System introduces natural gas in the pre-turbo stage. The turbo charger is an ideal mixer, and the homogenous natural gas-air mixture then passes through the Charge Air Cooler (CAC). The CAC not only reduces the charge temperature, but also acts to reduce turbulence at its discharge manifold, just as it would normally do if the incoming charge was only air. Therefore, the very well-mixed natural gas/air charge entering the intake manifold is no more turbulent than it would be if it were only air.     General operation in APGs Dual Fuel mode has no negative effects on engine wear rates and durability. Because engine thermal loads are equivalent to 100% diesel operation, no excess wear of combustion chamber components, such as pistons, rings, valves or injectors occurs.

APGs Dual Fuel Solutions deliver impressive savings from the moment its installed.

No other technology offers the savings and flexibility of American Power Group. APGs Dual Fuels Systems reduce operating cost – often by as much as 40%* – by introducing up to 65% natural gas. APG customers will see an immediate drop in diesel usage and often see a full return on their Dual Fuel investment in as little as one year.     In addition to diesel owners having their own banking and financing relationships, APG and many of their dealers have a number of national and regional financing options available.     APG has partnered with VFG Energy Leasing & Finance to provide a wide array of flexible lease and finance options where positive cash flow and increased take-home pay occurs the very first month of Dual Fuel ownership.

APG Oil & Gas Solutions - Flexible Fuel … Unlimited Power

Customers using APGs Conversion Technology for Oil and Gas applications quickly realize the fuel savings required to maintain their competitive edge!

Marine, Mining & Rail - Put APG to Work for

APG is quoting feasibility studies and development contracts with leaders in the marine, mining and rail industries to develop technology and support the advancement of Dual Fuel Conversions for these applications.     With guidelines and regulations for storage and delivery of natural gas fuel sources driving the pace for wider utilization of diesel conversions in these industries, APG is working with marine, mining and railroad stakeholders to develop and advance Dual Fuel Conversions for these activities.
