Albatern is developing a wave energy generator device - called WaveNET - made up of individual units - called Squids.
The design concept is to use a three dimensional space frame design to extract energy from waves efficiently and with low material cost. By using units made up of standard components, costs can be reduced more rapidly.
By coupling individual units together, and putting the array to work, the yield of each unit can be significantly improved. The design allows energy extraction from 5 of the 6 main elements in a complex energy field.
With rapid cost reduction , and high yield, Albatern expect to be able to move more quickly than existing technologies towards a comercially viable future.
Devices are being built at smaller scale to enable capital efficient device risk reduction. These smaller scale units can be taken to market in off grid markets such as aquaculture cage sites and offshore islands. In most cases this will involve diesel generator substitution with a sustainable renewable alternative.
From this smaller scale platform, designs will be scaled up to service projects at multi megawatt size for the grid scale production of electricity.
