The U.S. Remained the World’s Largest LNG Exporter in 2024

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): According to the latest report published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the United States continued to remain as the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter during the previous year.

As per data, the country exported 11.9 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of LNG in 2024. The exports remained essentially flat when compared with 2023, mainly on account of multiple unplanned outages at export facilities, reduced LNG consumption in Europe, and limited LNG capacity additions.

The world’s two next-largest LNG exporters were Australia and Qatar. The exports from these countries have remained more or less stable over the past five years, ranging between 10.2 Bcf/d and 10.7 Bcf/d per annum. The fourth and fifth largest exporters since 2019 were Russia and Malaysia. The LNG exports from Russia averaged 4.4 Bcf/d in 2024, whereas those from Malaysia averaged at 3.7 Bcf/d.

During the previous year, the U.S. natural gas exports to Europe registered substantial decline by 19%. The exports to countries in the EU and the UK witnessed decline. The only countries to report increased LNG imports from the U.S. were Turkiye and Greece, whose imports were up by 0.2 Bcf/d and 0.1 Bcf/d, respectively, in comparison with 2023.

Meanwhile, Asian countries imported almost one-third of the total U.S. LNG exports in 2024. Also, Egypt imported LNG from the U.S. for the first time since 2018, EIA report said.
