SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Suncor Energy Inc. announced that it has reached a significant milestone during the previous month, achieving record crude production from its Alberta wells, primarily led by Firebag oil sands site.
According to the latest data published by the Alberta Energy Regulator, the company’s wells in the Alberta province produced approximately 284,000 barrels per day (bpd) during October this year. This is significantly higher by 14% when compared with September production. Also, this represents the highest production on record since 2018, said a company news release.
The production from the Firebag site’s steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operation inched higher by 2% over the prior month to hit a record a 251,000 bpd. The production data comprises only of gross output from sites operated by the company, while excluding contributions from non-operated facilities and production from oil sands mines.
Firebag’s consistent growth makes it a crucial component of Suncor’s oil sands operations. In the meantime, the company plans to explore additional opportunities to enhance Firebag’s performance. Firebag is highly important to the company’s long term strategy, said Richard Kruger, CEO, Suncor Energy.
