Shell Takes Final Investment Decision on Victory Natural Gas Field

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):  Shell U.K. Limited announced that it has taken a final investment decision (FID) on developing the Victory natural gas field in the UK North Sea. The gas field is located approximately 47 kilometres northwest of the Shetland Islands in the northernmost region of the UK.

The development will significantly boost the share of domestically produced natural gas in UK’s total consumption. It must be noted that the current share of domestic production stands at 38%, according to the North Sea Transition Authority.

The development of the field involves construction of a 16 kilometre pipeline from the single subsea well to the existing infrastructure of the Greater Laggan Area system. This will lower the operational emissions significantly.

The Victory field id expected to become operational by the middle of the decade. At its peak, the field is anticipated to have a capacity of approximately 25,000 boed, which is sufficient enough to heat almost 900,000 homes per year. The natural gas from the Victory field will be processed onshore at the Shetland Gas Plant before being piped to the UK mainland, said the company news release.

Simon Roddy, Shell UK Upstream Senior Vice President noted that the domestic natural gas production is declining at a faster pace and that continued investments are required to sustain it.
